This is not a CBJ or the state of our program bashing. At the beginning of the year I thought 7 wins was a stretch but definitely 6 wins was very doable. Biggest thing was we all just wanted to get back to a bowl. So, with that being said, we need 3 more wins, where do they come from? First one that everyone would agree would be against Kentucky but after that...................not sure where, not even Vandy. Thoughts and why?

November will make or break this season. This team is overmatched against the next 3 teams. Other than a perfect game, those will be forgettable games. Mizzou, Auburn, Vandy willl make or break this season. Kentucky might give us a game if we're still seeing putrid offensive play by that time..

UK is the only win I am seeing at this point and it all comes down to QB play. Worley is killing us on O. Yeah, he scored a couple tds against a mediocre USA team but the SEC is going to own him. He is so afraid of a pass rush that he cant even complete a swing pass with someone on his heels

I think you have a good analysis. As a Vol fan it boils down to how you want to view the remainder of the season. As a Vol fan who wants us to "rise to the top" I view our team and remainder of the season through the following points:

1. We have a coaching staff who have proven they know how to win championships at the FBS level. It's not the SEC but nonetheless they have won championships at a high level.
2. We have players (both ability and depth) that consistently cannot compete at the elite level.
3. We are not that far away from being able to compete at a high level. Look at the offense ... If we had the players we had last year with the defense this year I firmly believe we would have beaten Florida this year in the swamp.
4. The "climate" is now in place to field a SEC championship team. In three years, if we have the same issues, I will agree CBJ is not the right fit for the program. However, so far I am impressed and lean towards CBJ BRINGING THIS PROGRAM BACK.
5. I think 95% of the players have bought into CBJ and staff.

Bottom line I still think it is possible, not likely, we beat Georgia or USC and win three or four out of the last four games. I think we can finish as high as 8-4 and not any lower than 5-7. 6-6 or 7-5 more likely. Even if we do not go bowling I still feel confident we have the proper system in place to be competing within a few years. Everyone needs to relax and get out of the panic mode. Leadership is made in turbulent times. This team is finally learning how to win!

Auburn and Mizzou are better than expected, and going to Mizzou looks daunting at this point. Beating Vandy will be determined by how much pride our players have. We have an entire roster filled with guys who expect to lose, so its going take some time for Butch to change that culture. Wouldn't surprise me at all if KY is our only other win of the year.

You can't judge a team by one game, but yesterday's performance can only be described as Dooley-esque. How can we now be optimistic about a team that runs up a 31-7 lead on a Sun Belt team, then, in front of the home fans, simply quits playing? Butch Jones & staff rate an A in recruiting, but a D- in player development and game day coaching. There's little or no evidence of improvement in play on either side of the ball, in any area - that is all on the coaches.

Quite frankly, it's hard to see this UT team beating Auburn, Mizzou, or Vandy this year. Barring some dramatic improvement in play, I'd say we're looking at 4-8, if not 3-9.

If it was truly Dooley-esque we would have given up the TD on 4th and 8, then lost in OT. Not at all happy with how we played in the 2nd half yesterday, but come on, let's give credit to the D for making the stop when we needed it most!

While I don't agree, I understand where you are coming from with your comments with the exception of one point. The USA game was not "Dooley-esque" because we found a way to WIN. Dooley would have found a way to lose! That is why I say we are learning, not there yet, how to win. In my book this is a HUDGE POSITIVE from the USA game.

A lot of football is mental! You have to believe! These players are certainly capable and I think will play better football! CBJ and staff must change the psychology in Knoxville and this does take time especially considering how long we have been down!

Not necessarily; the games against mid-majors were close but he didn't lose them, as seen against Troy or when Akron got close.

Not giving Dooley any credit or props, just pointing out that the analogy might not be correct here.

I hate to say it cause I was so hopeful at the beginning of the year but now I feel the same way. I wanted to see if any others felt the same way. I truly hope this team will make the turn for the better and do it soon.

Vandy will be a close game, KY should be a win. It will take a few breaks going our way to emerge with 5 wins. I'm not being a pessimist. That is the state of UT football at the moment.

Prior to the beginning of the year, I thought that CBJ would have to bring in one of the freshman QBs at around mid-season. One-half of a season would be enough to convince him that we don't have what we need at QB from Worley or Petterman. While I haven't attended practices, IT WHATS COACHES DON'T SAY that should trouble you. The "neck-in-neck" competition right up to game prep week was troublesome for me. Knowing how Worley played last year, I thought "Oh-no, we don't have a QB".

We're about there. Once we get a beat down by Georgia, then all bets are off the table and we try to do whatever we can to beat USCe. I wouldn't then be surprised to see Worley back in vs. Bama (only to manage the game due to his experience - but superior play from a freshman could change that). But from then on, I think we'll have a Freshman QB leading the way.

I have to wonder if Coach Jones is considering the very real possibility of a QB injury over the next three games. Thinking of the combination of GA, SC, and Bama the chances of coming out of that stretch without injuries at skill positions are not good. I think you may be correct unless Peterman is playable by then. I'm still not altogether comfortable with giving up a year of eligibility just for the sake of 5-7 over 4-8.

Georgia, Uscjr, and bama all three are beatable. especially the last 2. the hardest of the 3 will be georgia.

KY. A win Because of their lack of depth and it may be the game that we have to win to go bowling...

MO. I still think we beat them.....why? There schedule going into our game...5 brutal SEC games.

Vandy. Last years game, @ home, another must win game possibly.

Auburn. Never know what to expect when we play them. So you cannot call it a win.

USCe. Spurrier will find a way to win @ Tn. Always does of late... This game could be closer than it appears because of bye week prior to the game. Backup Dillion is a heck of a QB and this may work in our favor. Not sure if Shaw is finished for the season.

GA...Stranger things have/must happen.

AL. Maybe we see Peterman again but unfortunately I think we end up having to burn RSs due to injuries.

Ranked in my order of possibility.

Come on all.you realists!!! The next 6 games are going to be brutal if not downright ugly!! GA is going to dismember us. SC and bama are going to be ugly too. Auburn and Mizz are going to be tough too and Vandy will likely own us again so that leaves Kentucky. They SUCK!!! I'm calling it now. 4-8 and wouldn't be shocked if we dropped the last 7 to finish 3-9. QB situation is just embarrassing!!!!! Wtf is up with Worley???? He's NOT a SEC QB period!!!!! Burn a redshirt and start prepping for 2014!!!
