In the next three games we must face what ESPN ranks as the top three teams in the SEC (2 on the road!).

SEC POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 8

1. Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC; last week: 1): Say what you will about the lack of competition Alabama has faced since the Ole Miss game, but the Crimson Tide are doing exactly what they need to develop and build momentum. For the second straight year, the Tide blanked an overmatched Arkansas team 52-0 and appear to be the SEC's biggest hope for bringing the conference its eighth straight national championship.

2. Missouri (7-0, 3-0 SEC; LW: 4): So this is what Missouri's offense is supposed to look like when guys are healthy. Well, even with James Franklin out and Maty Mauk running things, the offense is pretty deadly. The Tigers are the surprise of the conference and crushed Florida 36-17 over the weekend with 500 yards of offense and a smothering defense that allowed just 151 yards. A win over South Carolina this weekend would essentially clinch the SEC Eastern Division for the Tigers.

3. Auburn (6-1, 3-1 SEC; LW: 8): It's clear that Gus Malzahn was the right choice for this team. The Tigers marched into Kyle Field on Saturday and shocked the nation with a thrilling 45-41 win over Texas A&M. The offense churned out more than 600 yards, including 379 rushing yards. The Tigers might be a bad first half against LSU away from being undefeated. Auburn is now averaging a league-high 300.1 rushing yards per game, which is 65.7 more than Missouri's No. 2 rushing offense.

SEC college football Power Rankings: Week 8 - ESPN

This schedule is getting crazy?!?

I don't want anyone here at VN to dismiss or discount a win over Mizzu or Aub as not a HUGE win for Butch if he can pull one of these three games off. AUB and Mizzu are two of the top three teams in the SEC so a win over one of those teams would be a big win!

Either would absolutely be huge wins. I think we win 1 of the next 3, just not sure which.

Your exactly right. I like our chances against AU better, just because its at home. These mobile type QB's have killed us for yrs. I dont think AU can run for 300 yards on us but Marshall is very mobile and dangerous. Im sure they will spy him and Mauck with Brewer a good portion of the game. A'M just has a division 2 type D. Auburn easily could have lost to Miss St and Wash St. Yes they are a talented and much better Coached team, but are beatable in Neyland. Mizzou i really dont know, that one scares me, especially being in Mizzou. They have reaped benefits of some their opponents better players being knocked out by the Vols before they play them, but still putting up 500 yards on Florida's D is no easy task, and blowing out GA and UF back to back is impressive. Now they could reap the benefits again if Shaw is out against SC and coming off a grueling, heartbreaking loss to UT. We should get to 6 wins by beating Vandy and UK, but playing 5 straight ranked teams and possible all 5 being top 12 beating one of Mizzou or AU would be huge for us. Just dont like our chances yet against Ala, we just dont get good enough QB play to test that secondary. We have receivers that can beat and get open against Bammers D, just not confident that Worley can stretch the field or make all the throws. Truth be told North and Howard have continued to bail out Worley on some of his throws, still continues having accuracy issues. But he definitely has shown toughness, leadership and improvement. He just lacks the tools for us to be an explosive offense. I just hope Lane gets more carries, he runs hard, between the tackles and is the much more physical back. Not saying start him over Neal, just think the way he ran Sat he will get more touch's, especially against that physical Ala front.

Auburn looks like Auburn should...They have had the talent all along, just not the coach. Mizzou however is strange, if UT is going to win one of the big ones that are left, it's definitely Mizzou...It's the perfect making for a trap game for them, especially after the embarrassment that happened in Neyland last year...

I would love to upset Mizzou's run for the east after last year's OT loss.

I dont mind Mizzou winning the East, I just want us to ruin the undefeated season. Their schedule really sets up to remain undefeated till they play most likely Ala. But giving them their first loss after last yrs game would be sweet. But if I had to pick, living in Ala I would rather beat and end out losing streak against AU. I think our last win was in '99 against them.

I think winning 1 out the next 3 would be a "win" for CBJ. Man, this schedule has to be one of the toughest in the nation. If anyone can do, CBJ can! GBO

Both Auburn and Mizzou are huge surprises.

Vols a bit of a surprise also.

I am not 100% sold on Auburn. All credit to them, but with LSU losing to Ole Miss I am less impressed with them playing one good half. Tamu's defense is about as bad as ours was last year. I am not exagerating. So was Auburn playing Tamu like Troy was to us last year? Maybe so!

Let's see them play a team with a better D.

Like Tennessee! :)

And no, I am not saying our D is really that good....it's still below average statistically. But its much better than that of Tamu!

True....but that was with Chavis and then Doofus.

We held Connor Shaw in check for the most part. He got a couple runs, but often he was down at or just a yard past the LOS.

It's a new era man!

Think we'll get at least one, but if we don't, we get 2 weeks to prepare for the other Franklin.
Butch now 9-1 after a BYE.

Missouri is for real, but their defensive performance this past weekend was a one-off. Florida just has a truly horrible offense.

I think SC scores plenty on Missouri this weekend, esp if Connor Shaw is healthy. I guess we will see.

While anything is posible, I think winning over Vandy and Kentucky are definately possible for this squad. At this point I'd be very happy with a 6-6 season and an Bowl Game.

being realistic one win would be good, two would be outstanding and a clean sweep sign butch to a lifetime contract.

Has to be one of the toughest?

Is the toughest.

Preseason we had 5 ranked teams on the schedule. We now have 7. Of those, 6 have been in the top 10. 2 of the 6 have been in the top 5 all year.

7 out of 12 of our games have been against ranked opponents. Nobody else in college has that kind of schedule. It IS the toughest schedule that I've ever heard of, much less seen.

No doubt, I have never seen anything like it. If Mizzou wins this week that would be back to back top 5 teams plus #2 Oregon. But yet the Bammers of the world play a ridiculously soft schedule.

Did anyone watch Mizz vs Gators? I saw bits and pieces, but I am curious as to how in the hell they blew the gators out like they did without their starting QB? Did Florida lay down for them and play a bad game or were they simply better than the Gators? Either way I think we are starting to hit our stride and if we could play UF again I think we would handle them.I just have a hard time believing Mizz is this good, even when they had Franklin...it's hard to believe.

I hope our team can continue the fight given we have two straight difficult away games against first place in west then first place in the East back to back. That is just brutal!

I would be happy beating any of those teams. Living in Missouri, I really want to see a win against Mizzou. At any rate, I'm going to Tuscaloosa this weekend and Columbia the following week to support my Vols.

It's so good to see University of Tennessee football become relevant again. GBO!

All three of those teams are going to be really tough wins for you. I agree that if you get 1 out of 3 that would be huge.
