In the past month or so, I really feel like Coach Dooley has gone above and beyond to embrace UT traditions, especially the game maxims. I am super impressed by the way he is putting them out there so much--he's embracing them not just for gameday, but applying them to other events (off-field conduct), using them in press conferences as part of his response when people as questions (often quoting them out of his head), and even in his recent Twitter message (DerekDooley: Justin Hunter cleared by NCAA. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.). As an alum, I have always been aware of the maxims, but never more so than here lately. What do you all think about the usage?

For those who need a refresher:

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

I love it. Traditions, the maxims specifically, are very important. I touched on that a bit in a thread last week and then the jackasses show themselves saying things like "winning is all that matters," while winning is obviously our ultimate goal and is very important, its not just about winning or "all that matters" (IMO).

Thanks for posting btw. Would be sweet to have a desktop photo the same as what is found in the locker room

Check back here later this afternoon, I have a great picture of the maxims in the locker room from the Miss. State game a couple of years ago and I'll post it on this thread for anyone who wants it.

Don't Let up, PUT ON MORE STEAM!

Can't say it better than this in football. Something bad always happens. It is how you respond to those moments that seal your fate.

Greetings everyone (Forgive the thread hijack - can't start a new one until I'm approved :) )

Anyway - heading to knoxville for the UF game and wanted to know if anyone could give some friendly pointers on a good tailgate spot for visitors (other than Calhouns) - I've been to Neyland many times for many years (w/Vol family) but never really paid much attention to where we parked. Any help would be greatly appreciated and good luck the upcoming 2 weeks.

If you are getting a hotel, try to find one that has free shuttle service to the game.

otherwise, just have $20 ready and park close to the stadium.

try Chesapeake's for great steaks and seafood in downtown knoxville.

LOL, not only is it's Dooley who is updating his facebook, twitter, etc., but everything he says is intended for me and no one else.

Actually, my daughter is a free lance writer and a couple of her contracts are as a social media specialist, coordinating twitter and facebook for companies. I'm fully aware that Dooley for the most part is not tweeting, but don't think for a second he doesn't have a general idea what's going out on the internet.

I say "for the most part" because there was a tweet this summer that showed his new outdoor grill set up that I do believe he did himself.

oh, a great spot for tailgating is what you asked. sorry, chesapeakes is more for great dining. There is no better spot on gameday before the game than Calhouns. then move to the tailgating areas around the stadium a few hours before the game.
