In the original list of 38 maxims (Neyland's 38 Team Maxims - Tennessee), which, over time, has been pared down to the seven "surviving commandments," Neyland once stated that "One good interferer is worth 3 ball carrying stars." Obviously, every NFL draft stands on its own merits in terms of the strengths and weaknesses of that year's class. For once, the NFL truly implemented the aforementioned maxim. For the first time in 50 years, if memory serves me correctly, no running backs were chosen in the first round. By contrast, 8 defensive and 9 offensive linemen were selected, two of which (including Eric Fisher, Butch's former protege at CMU) were slected as the top two picks overall. Offensive tackles have not been chosen back-to-back as Nos. 1 & 2 since 1970 (2013 NFL draft -- Kansas City Chiefs select Eric Fisher with No. 1 overall pick - ESPN).

I can't think of a draft where only 1 qb, 2 true wr's, 1 te, and 1 "athlete" were the only offensive skill players drafted.

The game is won up front.

You guys do realize that the Maxims are basically just fundamentals of football right? They teach this stuff in PeeWee football.

Yes, in the same way that the Ten Commandments* are fundamentals of righteous behavior.

*Fifteen Commandments, according to Mel Brooks.
