The crowd absolutely makes a difference. And I love it when we're recognized for it! I know there have been several mentions of the crowd Saturday, but thought a thread dedicated to Neyland Noise could be a good reminder that it matters. (I'm trusting you to keep the band comments out of it, it won't be an original thought. :p ) Please post comments or articles if you come across them.

Here's my contribution:

Their collective whiff allowed the Tennessee rusher to break through, and Lynch said the decibel level in Neyland Stadium played a direct role in the miscommunication.

“It's so much easier going out and practicing and doing it, even if it's full-speed practice because you kind of have that communication barrier and it really was a lot louder than I think a lot of people thought,” Lynch said. “Lucas Redd looked at me and was like, 'I had to read your lips.' That was one of the things that you just can't have those types of setbacks. I think we've cleaned it up.”

My contribution is... for the love of all things Neyland,
DO NOT START THE WAVE WHEN WE'RE ON OFFENSE!

This kind of noise can make it difficult for our offense to call signals and checks.

I would be happy if we just kill the wave forever. It didn't break out at all on Saturday and that was the best crowd intensity I have seen in a long time.

That moment when you start to wonder if neyland was build to withstand the feet pounding is when you know it's a game.

When they first opened the upper deck on the student side;then in the endzone,is when the thumping started. The sound of feet thumping on those metal sections raised all kinds of noise "hell"for the opposition,we knew we had something great:rock:

You know you are doing your part when opposing fans in front of you leave mid way through the 3rd quarter of a close game.

I loved the dirty look they shot me and my family as they left.

I don't want to hear people making excuses about it being an early game. There's no reason it shouldn't be as loud or louder next Saturday. Set that alarm clock early and beat those cocks.....gamecocks that is :p

Of course when all in Neyland are standing it is impossible to do the wave. :)

The visit weekend for Tennessee was huge, and despite a close loss to Georgia the Vols hit a home run. Not only did they impress official visitors Josh Malone, Clifton Garrett and others, they had commitments on hand working recruits hard and they had some key 2015 targets enjoying the atmosphere. The crowd gets the credit here because many recruits described the atmosphere as "crazy" and "insane"." For the Vols to finish in the top five or even top 10 nationally, despite their lofty No. 2 status right now, closing on a few of their remaining big targets is a must. Now they have put themselves in position to do so, whereas a blowout loss would have hurt badly. --Farrell

So, we caused false start, delay of game, blocked punt, and awestruck recruits.

Good job VOLS FANS!!

It was the loudest I have heard it in forever. I had a female companion with me and it was our first time hanging out, I warned her that if it got crazy that I would be wild and I was. Best thing is she said I made it way more fun because I was so into it. I KNOW MY ROLE!!!! GO VOLS!!!!!!

Should have left this part out. The responses would have been classic.

Vollygirl - glad you started this thread. This is sooooo true, and is what makes other teams hate playing here, and when the crowd is like they were Saturday, they really do become the "12th man". It is so important! We have to be this way every game from start to finish.
