So I know a lot of you aren't in the Knoxville area, or at least don't go by Neyland Stadium everyday like I do. Some things started to take shape this week. There are only a couple of noticeable cosmetic changes at the moment. These changes are under the skyboxes on the Estabrook side of the stadium. They built the cinderblock wall on the main causeway like a moth ago, but the steel just started going up this week. I thought I'd take a couple of pics and let you see... how little they've actually gotten done thus far!

I'd like to see those... the only other stuff I've seen on the outside is Bellsouth burying more lies on the street side (Fulmer Way).

They are supposed to remove the scisor ramps and everything...

The last time I was at Neyland stadium was in 89, I have never been back, would love to see another football game their but it's so hard to get tickets. Where do we rank in biggest stadium? I know Michigan is first and Ohio State keeps catching up they may have already. Thanks for the pictures.

I don't like the idea of getting smaller...it's not like our fans are crazy loud or anything.

There actually is quite a work that has been done so far, you just cannot see it from the outside. I work for the steel fabricator. A barney-fife type fire marshal was throwing his weight around and held up the project by a few weeks.

It is also major changes to the look of the place, they're going to add brick facades and stuff.

And Jason, I was just pointing out that this is all I can see from the outside. I'm sure they've been working hard in there, I see lots of workers going in. I expect that the exterior stuff is the last thing on the list.

In addition to cosmetic improvements, I've read they are upgrading and adding restrooms (hopefully without troughs), improving concession areas, widening walkways and adding a club level.

It's a great atmosphere once you get inside (as long as the guy next to you doesn't weigh 300 lbs.) But it does look like an erector set from the outside and some of the interior corridors are dungeon-like.

I'm not sure they can/will do anything with the corridors on the Estabrook side of the stadium. I was under the understanding that the widening was over by Gate 21. I could be completely wrong however... I just don't see them messing with South and East Stadium Halls.

Don't tell me the are tearing out the old dormitory underneath the south and east stands. I stayed in that dorm my freshman year(South Stadium Hall). What a rat-hole, no air conditioners, also had community bathrooms and hadn't painted the rooms since Beattie Feathers played on the hill.

I still have nightmares of that creepy place.

The Anthropology Department is in there now. It's still pretty much as you described it. I haven't heard of any plans that they are moving, though.

I always wondered what it would be like to actually live there. What did you guys do on game day?

I think the Civil and Industrial Engineers have offices down there as well... the Volcard/Allstar office in in South Stadium...

The football game came to us. Most of us were in school using the student deferment to avoid being drafted and going to Viet Nam. We used to watch football practices. Also there was a chili dog vender stand outside the dorm at night. Best damn Chili dogs in the world. Occasionally we'd break out and go on a "panty raid" at the girls dorm. About the most excitement we had at that time.
