I think it was very loud for an opener. I don't think it was as loud as it has been for some games in recent years but still loud.

It was as loud consistantly as any game.

There have been periods of other games in the last few years that were louder, but those games had a lot of quiet mouse times.

Saturday was an all-out scream fest for 4 quarters. Hardly anyone left until we failed to score/pick up the first down inside the three with just over 2 mins to play. Rewatching the game at home, I was amazed how loud Rocky Top was as sung by the crowd, and how well you could hear S-E-C, and O-VER-RA-TED, and Na Na Na Na.

I was in section E row 51, an area where you normally encounter a lot of people who like to watch the game sitting down, and who usually dislike their neighbors' shouting. On Sat. though just about everyone was on their feet and making some noise. There were a few older fans nearby who obviously were not physically capable of standing the entire game but they seemed to be happy enough to watch the jumbotron and enjoy the atmosphere. It probably helped that Fulmer asked in advance for a loud, active crowd.

Exactly, OrangeSquare! I've had season tix since 1988 and Sat. night was as loud as it's been for a whole game since at least 1998, maybe even going back to the FL game in the early 90's (year?) that we returned opening 2nd half kickoff (Dale Carter?) and then routed the Gators as the heavens opened up and it poured. That was an electrifying night! Moreso than Cal game, I guess just cause it was FL.

That was 2 different Florida games. The Carter return was in '90. The rain game was '92. Both great games!

Thanks, Vader. I've wondered about that, but you're right both great games!

I tailgated at Calhouns on the river and heard twice Cal fans talking trash about not hearing Rocky Top. I was in X1 row 27. Pre-game, as is most of the time, was noticeably silent. The Cal fans were cheering Go-Bears as do all visiting teams prior to kick-off.
THEN........
The Pride rolled onto the field, and the beast woke as if it had been sleeping since the beginning of last season. IT WAS LOUD, VERY LOUD. The crowd stumbled on V..O..L..S, but when the T split it was deafening.

When Cal threw the opening play about 40 yards downfield, I sensed a little uneasy murmur but there was no giving up as i have seen in other games. If i'm not mistaken there were 3 delay of games, which i believe can be attributed to the 12th man. Also, longshore was noticably having a hard time audibling. Aignes had to beg the crowd to quiet during offensive huddles.
Rocky Top was sung as loud as I have heard it, along with the S..E.C cheers and OVERRATED. I guess every 35-0 run is gonna be fun and loud but the crowd never let up when we got ahead, we never let them in the game and it was rockin!!!! i too have no voice. i hope the crowd is that electric all season.

it looked and sounded good on HD....kudos to the Big Orange nation...got a few false starts, and according to Tedford's and Longshore's reaction, they had never been in an environment like that....in fact, Tedford was asked point blank if he had, and he only could muster a simple "no.".
