Neyland Stadium becoming more annoying (my thoughts)

cell phone coverage is one of the most confusing complaints for me. Can't be part of the "atmosphere and pageantry" if you're staring at a 4" screen
But how are you going to post in the game thread?

Seriously, the only reason this has been an annoyance for me is that I was in for the Missouri game last year and I was trying to meet up with an old friend who was sitting in a different section of the stadium and I was trying to get in touch with them.

I'm a 47 year old white female. I loved every minute of the atmosphere at the game.

It's called swag. You saw it in the 90s and the turn of the decade. Op is old enough to have experienced as well. I wouldn't change the atmostphere of the last 6 quarters (& one OT) for anything. It's the stuff I look forward to every fall. I'm really doing my best to drown out anything that's played during the game, with the exception of Rocky Top.

I can't personally comment on the atmosphere at Neyland. However I can sympathise with the OP. When I went to see the Notre Dame Navy game last year one of the things I really wanted to see and hear was the band. Sure ND's band is chewing gum on the shoe of the POTSB, but nevertheless it is what makes college so special in my view, the fact that traditions like bands have survived. To think that lots of pre recorded music is played instead of or even over our band is disgusting. When I come to Neyland, I want constant fight songs and cheering. I want to leave the stadium with little or no voice. God I hope the OP is lying.

Maybe not lying, but exaggerating quite a bit. The band still plays a ton, they just don't have a monopoly on EVERY. BREAK. IN. PLAY. like the band, Sousa, and apparently this guy would like.

My cell phone works on LTE and 4G inside Neyland. I use T-Mobile. Oddly it doesn't work as well in my house. It also works perfectly on LTE at the Titans games. To fix the issue at home I just use WiFi calling. Also I really enjoyed the atmosphere Saturday with the pre game DJ and modern music during TV timeouts over the band playing Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer.

I'm forty eight and enjoy the pageantry and tradition associated with college football in general and Tennessee football in particular. That being said, I was at the SC game this past Saturday and didn't see a thing wrong with the piped in music. It certainly helped to energize the team and pump up the stadium crowd late in the 3rd quarter when both had become flat after a couple of Gamecock scores. I'm happy to not hear "Livin' on a prayer" but wish that POTSMB would bring back "The Immigrant Song" while the Vols are on defense. OP needs to embrace the change especially if it helps to bring about a lost tradition on Tennessee gamedays...winning.

I AM NOT an old-fogy so don't bash me for being out of touch. I am 33 years old and I grew up on hip-hop and pop culture, which I enjoy still to this day. But, it has it's time and place and can be rather annoying when it is OVER-DONE!!

I know that keeping up with the times and changing is necessary to a degree but there is a difference when old white dudes (Hart and Cheek) don't know the difference between being "cool" and out of touch really means.

Every single time there was a break in play, a time out, a critical point in the game last Saturday I noticed both bands trying to get into the action and atmosphere. Only to be completely drowned out by "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared"

I mean every once in a while is okay. Pre-game, the occasional tv time-out, etc.

But we have one of the largest and most recognizable bands in the entire country. Laugh all you want, but UTs band is one of the reasons we are so recognizable and every sports fan knows us by Rocky Top. The team doesn't play Rocky Top, the band does.

It is college football, NOT the damn Titans. If I wanted to go to a concert with overly loud blaring annoying music, I would go to a Titans game. Part of why people enjoy college games is the atmosphere and pageantry.

This coupled with the fact that cell phones do not work in Neyland Stadium are driving people away. This isn't just me *****ing about it. This is what I hear from tons of people in the stands. The "crunk" "hype" pre-recorded music isn't getting ANYONE more involved.

I would bet that 99% of our fan base would rather hear Rocky Top and our other fight songs over hearing "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared" . It's true!!

Simple solution....if you do not like it then do NOT go.

I have been going to UT games since the late 70's and the ONLY way Neyland is getting more annoying, is to Opposing Teams Ba-By!!!:rock::rock:

I just leave at halftime. Great reception outside Neyland :whistling:

and I get some frustration but have never understood the suggestion that coverage is keeping people from attending games.

I was there Saturday, what I saw was a rowdy crowd. I personally haven't saw that at Neyland for several years. At one point, I believe late in the 3rd quarter, the crowd was sitting on their hands a bit. They started playing some hip hop and who I believed to be Hinton, dancing on the big screen. That energized the crowd back to where it was the first half. I loved that atmosphere, can't wait for the next home game!

For the record, people enjoy Titans games just fine seeing how they've sold out every game ever...

I am a Titan season ticket holder. Unless the Steelers or Cowboys are in town, the stadium is not filled. Most games are at 75% capacity at best. The "sold out" reference is misguided by the Titans. I prefer the atmosphere at Neyland, even though it has been 2 years since I have been to a game. I hope the loud hip hop isn't as bad as reported.

The team loved the atmosphere and the canned music. They were bouncing and jumping and bobbing their heads during every stoppage to the music. Do what works. Kudos to Hart/Cheek/Jones/Etc for listening to the players. I don't care if they pump in Kenny G it it works for the guys down on the field.

They play the music for recruits coming in. More of a marketing scheme than anything else

I seriously doubt lack of cell phone use and accessibility is turning people away from attending our home games.

I'm 40 (I know.... I'm a man!). I loved it. Section Z11 was rocking (minus the 2 Cock fans behind us).

BTW, I downloaded that song to my phone on the way back to the car.
