NFL Combine/Donte Thornton

Dude ran a 4.30 at the combine. Pretty amazing for a guy of any size. Almost unheard of for someone over 6’ 4”.

How was he not able to get nearly as much separation as Hyatt? I’m coming around to the idea that Golesh was much, much better than Halzle.
Having a QB that sees it perfectly and doesn't miss helps a lot.

I don't know why yall are surprised. He led the nation in yards per catch this year. There were several times he took a skinny post the distance running by everyone. His speed should be common knowledge.

All this proves is speed isn't everything at WR. You need to have great body control, route running, and intangibles to be elite. Donte Thornton is a deep ball WR but he lacks all around WR skills. I could see him cultivating a niche in the NFL like Jacoby Jones did for the Ravens back in the day. Not elite but a solid WR.

I think it's more Pope, atleast with the lack of WR production and all the drops the last 2 yrs.

He played all 13 games last year
That in no way invalidates the statement made. He played hurt almost all season. He was out of the game as much as he was on the field all year long. His straight-line speed was never the issue. Stone Hands from Unnecessary Roughness was an Olympic Level speedster that couldn't run routes correctly or catch the ball all the time.

So basically Leonard Scott. Now in fairness he was a pretty good returner.

We saw a lot of two high and teams forces us to throw wide which is not real productive if we have wide splits. That’s why we ran it so much into a soft box. When teams played us like NCST with one safety we ate. Thornton was a product of being nagged by injuries, a qb that didn’t process super quickly(not terrible-I thought he played pretty good for a first year qb) and defensive adjustment to our scheme. Teams wouldn’t let us just win with cheap scores.

He was still injured a bunch. Unavailable in the 2nd half of multiple games, etc.

Look I'm not hating on the kid. I'm just saying he was injured a lot and it's a big reason why he didn't put up better stats.
