I really dont like the rule, I'll call it the Tom Brady rule, where a defensive player after they have been knocked down cannot lunge after the QB. Now I can understand if the ball has already left his hand, thats what we call roughing the passer.

Owners pass four rules in an attempt to make the game safer

» The initial force of a blindside block can't be delivered by a helmet, forearm or shoulder to an opponent's head or neck. An illegal blindside block will bring a 15-yard penalty.
» Initial contact to the head of a defenseless receiver also will draw a 15-yard penalty. "Our clear movement is to getting out of the striking in the head area," Pereira said. "We're reading about injuries that say spinal and vertebrae. We've got to try something."
» On kickoffs, no blocking wedge of more than two players will be allowed. A 15-yard penalty will go to a violating team.
» Also on kickoffs, the kicking team can't have more than five players bunched together pursuing an onside kick. Breaking this rule would draw a 5-yard penalty.

who was the Steelers' quarterback that got blindsided during an interception return? that hit, while legal, pretty much ended his career?

Yeah, protecting someone from ending their career and potentially their life on earth makes them pucking fussies. I couldn't agree less.

Yeah, because there have been so many football related deaths lately it's out of control.

It's probably a change that would have happened eventually...but the fact that Tom Brady was the one who got hurt by it -and season ending at that-sped up the process immensely

what about the rule to lengthen the season and get rid of some preseason games?

There was no rule decided there. Goodell was just telling the press again-he said it at some point last year-that he wants to get rid of a preseason game and add a regular season game.

I dont know how that would work out well though, because half the teams in the league then get stuck having more away games then home games....unless he wants every team to have one matchup outside of the country or something

And while we're at it, there are apparently new draft rules that go into play next year, simply for playoff teams, you now draft in the order you lost out in the playoffs

Speaking of "defenseless receiver" rules....I've never understood how a hit can be completely legal if the receiver catches the ball, but is illegal because he is all of a sudden rendered defenseless because he doesn't have the force field around him that is a piece of bloated pigskin.

I'm guessing they would never go to an odd number of games on the schedule.
