Good stuff...love the vibe...we'll see how it translates on the field but mental approach has been a weakness for our team since the downturn of the Fulmer years

Read that a bit ago myself and thought that CBJ just keeps doing things the right way. Looks to me like he is really wanting to get the tradition back into the program and love his open door policy for the VFLs, which just seems like a no brainer to me to do that sorta thing anyhow.

Jones seems to get it.. Tennessee doesn't produce a lot of numbers, but it does produce some very good players. It's only going to get better. They're doing the right thing here.

With Vandy resurging and many other quality D1 schools within a short distance of the Mid-state area, it becomes vital for the Vols to get the best players from there. Lots of good skill position players as well as offensive lineman.

"Gonna coach the O-Line to play the way we are used to seeing TN lines play"

That was interesting to me. We supposedly have one of the best O-Lines in the country, but this struck a cord with me. They don't play like the O-Lines we are used to.
If he can take this very talented group of men who are already considered one of the best O-Lines in the country and coach them up to play like we are used to seeing TN O-Lines look like......look out college football.........

It blows my mind that the previous two coaches didn't reach out to these guys. I know there were hard feelings with Fulmer's departure, but its good to see old players involved again.

Marlin Lane > Jay Graham?

Rajion Neal > Travis Stephens?

Huh? How did you get that from my post?

These guys are already considered one of the best O-Lines in the country and do not even look close to the O-Lines we used to put on the field in the way they play. If they are already THAT good and can be coached up to play like the "Big Nasties" we used to watch, even an average back will look great.

You have to surge before you can resurge. Just sayin'. :)

I was impressed where one of the coaches went through the record book to associate it with the former players he was about to meet. That's doing things the right way and not simply going through the motions.

It's that attention to detail that will make the difference on the field. If they can make the players play with that attention to detail they'll make us proud.

Jones is doing what should have been going on years ago. Invest in the state. Build relationships. This stuff pays huge dividends down the road.making up for the failings of last 20 years. For all CPF did, he totally failed in this area.

This is very impressive, and shows he is curious and determined to suceed here. I like it.

Again CBJ seems to be doing everything off the field that needs to be done. He is trying to grow excitement for the program. Seems he is trying to unite the fan base. I am liking what he is doing off the field so far.

Damn dude. Why are you so defensive? I didn't get jack from your post, except I thought maybe if this awesome offensive line could become what the old O lines were, maybe the backs of today could become like the backs of yesterday.

You get it??

Edit: And you're right, common sense is overrated.

Coach Jones is taking his Michigan roots to heart. It is exactly the model used by Brady Hoke to revitalize the alumni at Michigan. It works and is needed. I hope he can take the roadshow to other towns throughout the southeast. GO BIG ORANGE!

I was defensive because I didn't read your reply the way you intended it to be read apparently. I thought you were saying that I thought that these RB's were greater than the others, not, that with an O-Line of old the possibilities were there to be as great.

Fact is. We were saying the exact same thing. My bad. It's all good.

Like the retort in the edit though. I don't look at my own AVI that often. Had forgotten I had even put that there.

Tennessee in their hay day was considered a scavenger program.. Kippy said it in the interview after Kifturd left.. We'd pluck a few here and there.. Back then the state wasn't producing much D1 talent.. Times are changing. Middle Tennessee is growing, and the programs all over the state are improving.. It can only help...We're not going to sign a bunch of guys here. We do need to do a better job of keeping the good ones here though.. Really no excuse to keep getting poached when there is so little talent to begin with..

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to get the best players in the state to come to UT. Always nice to have a few stand outs on the team that are from UT. That being said we also need to go after what is going to help us win.
