Nicholls State is located in Thibodaux (Pronounced "TI-BID-OH") , Louisiana. I attended NSU in 2004 when this whole thing got started. The NAACP threw a fit because our mascot was a confederate colonel and that was "racially insensitive" according to them. I never personally knew anyone white, black or otherwise who found "Tillou" (pronounced "TEE-LEW") offensive because they know who he was and what he was. The whole reason we are the colonels is because the institution is named after Francis Tillou Redding Nicholls, a former CONFEDERATE Colonel and governor of the great state of Louisiana. Though after the civil war his house mysteriously caught fire and most of his civil war documents were lost (it's widely believed he burned the documents purposely as an act of contrition). They spent $30,000 to get a new mascot and this is what we got. I am very disappointed. In closing, yes I am from Louisiana, still live there but I do have family living in Knoxville and am a fan of both the Fightin' Tigers of LSU and the VOLS. I get crap all the time for having big orange paraphernalia on my truck but I don't care and when big orange comes to Tiger stadium in October know I will be the only person originally from Louisiana wearing big orange with pride!! GO VOLS!!!
