Nick Calathes will bypass NBA to play in Greece

I thought he would stay in the draft and if he was not able to make an NBA roster he'd then go to Greece. Interesting move to decide this early...

He could have developed into a true leader at UF. Can't blame him for going wherever he does, though.

I know he was a leader by definition, however, the teams he led were mediocre (and he was young).

Go to the draft, don't be a moron.

There's a decent chance he would have been a first round pick this year. This is just an illiterate cash grab scheme on his father's part. He'll be a top 15 pick next year.
If you say so. Every game I watched that he played in didn't point to first round talent to me. But I'm not an NBA scout or expert to say the least.

I could see him ending up as a back up Guard for some NBA team. His athletic ability just does not match up to other guards in the NBA for him to be a starter.

Bad move for Calathes.

Why? International players are getting drafted quite a bit these days. Like hat says, he plays for a year (getting paid as opposed to battling it out in the SEC) and he could still end up in the NBA. Teams can even still draft him and retain his rights if he decides to come back to the U.S.

I'm not so sure he would've been a 1st round pick this year, but he would've gotten drafted.

One year of pro basketball even overseas will still keep him in the eyes of the NBA. It's not like they just scout the major colleges anymore.

I can think of a lot of places worse than Greece to spend a year. Oklahoma City, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, and Detroit are among those places.

I don't think it's an awful move...Greece can probably prepare him for the Association better than the current SEC can.

Why can't gators be successful in the Pros. Is Tebow going to bypass the NFL for the Arena League?

My thought exactly. I recall being underwhelmed by his performances against UT (the only times I ever watched him). Maybe I'm just misremembering. But most likely it's because I'm not an expert in the least.

He never played that well against UT - you didn't watch enough of him apparently. He went off vs. UK last year - 30 something points and was nearly perfect on the night but missed crucial free throws at the very end after shooting lights out from the line.

It appears that the Oglesby (sp?) from Clemson via Bradley County High is taking the same route. I have heard he has been offered very good money to play overseas.
