I knew he was an Alabama verbal, so I never bothered to read his actual quotes on his recruitment until this week.
This is what I found puzzling; these articles are off Scout.
on August 25th he said--
"I haven't even started narrowing things down," said linebacker Nico Johnson. "I'd like to wait until signing day to decide unless the pressure gets to be too much. I just want to take my time..."
On Sept 3rd he committed to Alabama.
"Before I committed to Alabama my mom went into the hospital. I decided it was time for me to go ahead and make my decision. My heart was more at Alabama than it was at Auburn. I talked to my mom about it and decided Alabama was the best place for me."
Even when he signed he was talking about taking other visits. It sounds like he never thought the whole thing through and is now starting to see the finality of his decision.
So...his mom went into the hopsital and he makes a quick decisions so he can concentrate on family/school instead of the recruiting blitz?
He committed right after Alabama throttled Clemson. It seems like the momentum was there to make a hasty decision. He went from "signing day" to a commitment in 8 days.
I wonder if after Alabama fizzled and things slowed down for him a bit, if he didn't start to really look at the depth chart at Alabama and some of the pros of going elsewhere.
I know the staff has been interested in him, because it was mentioned in a Rivals article that was put up at USA Today.

I know we're probably 9-to-1 at least to get him, but I'd really like to see him de-commit from Saban and his crew. Here's hoping Nico Johnson leaves Alabama and Saban's sacred locker room rug.
