OK, first, I'm not sure how NIL is supposed to work and all the legalize behind it. IF NIL was a factor in the altercation, and I get the feeling that it started with something else and words got said and built up to the NIL money being a factor....that's how arguments go, start with you didn't take out the trash and ends up with "I hate your sister".
So, can a company or companies give NIL money too a whole team? Say, XYZ car dealership signs the entire team to a deal and has the entire team do 2 open to the public autograph sessions and all who show up split like $250,000 or whatever amount. Everybody gets some spending money in their pocket and maybe a little more happy. Then, say the guys already making NIL money opted out of the payment but still showed up to support their teammates and mingled with the fans.
Would something like that be legal or even doable?
I'm not as smart as most of y'all, so just asking if it something that's possible?

yes, its legal under the NIL guidelines and state law for a company to provide benefits to a "whole team". That does not resolve the issue of one player getting 8 million while everyone else gets 50K. There is going to be hard feelings.

From what I've been told, NIL played zero part in the issues last week. That was just an internet rumor.

Gotcha. Internet rumours are killing me! Lol
Watched a clip of Dave Hooker and they were blasting NIL. Probably just their personal soap box....

I seriously doubt anybody on the Tennessee defense is spooling up much NIL coin this year, while it looks like a kings ransom on the offensive side of things and the way the NIL rules are written, Heupel can't have a thing to do with the allocation/reallocation of those funds, so, yes we have the haves and the have nots on our team and there is not a thing anybody in the employee of the athletic department can do about it.

The QB coming from high school getting this so called big NIL deal makes me think there should be limits on what you can give one player.

The funny thing is that the dream of every player is to make it to the NFL where one player earns $10+M a year and many are "only" making $600k - news flash, some people are more valuable than others.

And if you want to make NIL money from donors - essentially SPONSORSHIPs that are based upon your reputation benefiting the donor, not just your playing ability - maybe you should shut your trap when you are in the back of a police car. Yeah, corporate donors don't care for that kinda thing.

I think it was Nebraska that had a company give each player 50k per year. Read it a while back.

My head is spinning....lol I was just trying to think of a way for those that don't have a deal and still put in all the work, that eat, sleep, and bleed for Tennessee to get something. But then I was thinking should staters get more than backups and then do backups get more than walk ons.....so it's goes back to levels of compensation. Yes, I have a headache now ....😆.
I guess just let the market figure it out and trust that the players wanna play for Tennessee and not money alone.

Offensive playmakers are going to make the money. It is what it is. If your on defense, keep your nose to the grindstone, stay out of trouble, and ball out!!!! Wilson, Little, Barnett, etc, would have made bank with NIL.

My understanding is that at UT every scholarship athlete in every sport has an individual NIL contract and is being paid for fullfilling that contract. The terms include making public appearances, endorsements, branded merchandise, etc, but they are not actually paid for playing. Individual valuations and donor funds offered for specific players determine the monetary amounts. Just like in the real world, it's a free market and some are obviously making much more money than others, but all are currently making something.

This thread is utterly ridiculous. Let’s be realistic for a change

Put the money in an escrow account. Cash it out if you graduate from that institution?
LOL I love the idea, but no way in hell that would ever happen.

I'm getting to the point that I don't GAS whether or not they even attend classes.

There should be a limit on how much a team can get in NIL money.... like a salary cap. If your QB gets all of it, so be it. But this is going to get out of hand really quickly.

Texas Tech has somewhat of the solution. All players including walk-ons will get a $25,000 base.

Anything above that should be on the individual players and ad sponsors to work out to the benefit of both parties.

Get China to donate a few billion dollars to our NIL by telling them it's a chance to clandestinely pilfer national secrets from the UT College of Engineering.
