I think thi si the perfect post to start a thread on this topic instead of talking about it on recruiting pages

from @LVFLfan4ever
Truth of the matter is there's not the same NIL money on the women's side at UT as there is on the men's side. It killed us in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Tennessee laws are not as favorable to NIL either as in some states - Louisiana, for example. In Tennessee, a coach cannot contribute to a collective and cannot seek donations from corporations or donors; this is legal in Louisiana, and they have those funds available a plenty (a female gymnast has $2 million in NIL money).

Lady Vol supporters need to join the BoostHer Club, which is the collective for female sports at UT. There are opportunities for monthly membership and one-time donations, or corporate sponsorships. Sprye Sports is the collective for men's side. There's a stark difference in the financial picture between the two collectives.

Many people don't like NIL. I'm one of them. I want student-athletes to have these opportunities, but there is no regulation by the NCAA - it's created a very unbalanced recruiting landscape. That needs to be addressed immediately, but it seems like it won't be and $$$ will rule.

It will always be an unbalanced landscape until women unite and make it so.
And I'n not saying unite in the man-hater kind,,,I'm saying unite in the importance of sport

Men,, know the impact sports makes on young boys and consider it can be as influential in the boy's career as the college education was. And this is echoed by blue collar, white collar and no collar.

Once the non-sporting females and non-sporting business owners get in the awareness that sports is more than just a game,,,you'll get that equality. ANd you'll get those comparable numbers

State of Tennessee Amends NIL Law to Further Empower Institutions and Collectives
The Tennessee law was changed in April with an amendment and signed by the Governor so institutions can now make contact and hopefully we are doing this. Boosther club should have a lot more publicity that it presently has and all Tennessee fans should fill it up for the female athletes that choose Tennessee and the ones already here. NIL is part of recruiting now fans have to do their part to help.

Why wouldn't all Lady Vol fans unite around this, regardless of gender?

they do in the stands.
I look at the stands and easily 50% are male,,but on the financial side...they are waiting

Most men of my era (63) were taught to respect "performance".
There were no "participation trophies"
my generation respected ,, accomplishments!

Until businessmen see business women taking the initiative and leveling the playing field...why would they bother

I believe NIL is the next great opportunity for women.

The should bother because they came from a woman, some of their partners are women, and potentially they have daughters. This shouldn’t be an “I’m waiting on women to make less than I do in the dollar to carry the financial burden before I show support financially” moment.

I do agree that winning changes things.

Wow, tell me how you really feel.
;o)
I never said women should make less and do not think that
I said,,,prominent women don't support women in sports nearly deep enough in their pockets.
There are 331M people in the USA. 50.6% women 49.4% men
There's no reason why women's sports in this generation should continue to trail
Especially in BB, bc it is THE high visibility game for collegiate women.

women "play" the game while men play "in the game"
I'd much rather watch a BB game than a track meet ,,, complete with high jumpers.

Okay, that makes zero sense

Thank you,
now
Please start making sense,,,I only started this thread to move the conversation to a new venue.

don't shoot the messenger just continue the message

You didn't explain why you are singling out women to put up money for NIL when Lady Vol fans are not exclusively women, as evidenced by this very forum! The rationale just doesn't make sense to me.

someone has to make the first move
should it be the men?

If it is,
we start hearing how we prevented women from doing it them self
If we don't,,,were heartless bastards.

WCBB is THE venue for college sports. It is year one of NIL.
Time to shine
treat it like a business and become the head of the class at it.

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone complain about a man putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to financial investment in women

If you want to support our women athletes, you need to join the Lady Vol Boost-her Club.

You can even direct donations to the "Women's Basketball Excellence Fund' through the Tennessean Fund to support the team.

I have done both...you guys should, too. Every dollar counts!

Lady Vol Boost-her Club is a great concept for the female athletes but should not be the only avenue for current players to be compensated. This is a great time for players to capitalize on themselves in their own personal deals that they seeked out and negotiated. Putting money into a pot and handing out isn't going to move the needle.

Notes: Gov. Bill Lee signed an amendment to Tennessee’s NIL legislation in April. The amendment rewrote the original bill, making several noteworthy changes. Collectives can work with college coaches and athletic officials. The new law removes the institutional involvement prohibition and allows athletic department employees to become part of the NIL process. Collective are also allowed to participate in the recruiting process.
This opens the door to any amount of money including offers to recruits all you need is the deals to make the offers. This allows coaches to talk about NIL with players they are recruiting and if they of course have the deals tell them how much they could be worth to the player. This amendment put Tennessee schools at an advantage over some states while others have the same law.

It is my understanding that SPYRE IS supporting the Lady Vols. I am pretty sure I read an article a few months ago that several Lady Vols had deals with them. TK, SP, JH and a couple others. Do you have information that is not the case?
I am guessing the transfers also got NIL deals.

interesting article:

As of June 20, men's sports received 62.7% of total compensation in the NCAA and NAIA combined, compared with 37.3% for women's sports, Opendorse said. Remove football and women flip it to 52.8% vs. 47.2% for men. The difference in Division III was stark through May 31: 82.9% men vs. 17.1% women.

NIL deals: College football, track star known as ‘King of NIL’ has 70 endorsements

This looks like the best article for that info
How NIL legislation varies on a state-by-state basis
