If Auburn loses in the Sweet 16, then their season will have been just like Tennessee's from 2008 under Bruce Pearl. They reached #1, and then petered out.

That 08 squad had same good players but none were the caliber of Jabari Smith or Walker Kessler. Sweet 16 would be underachieving this year for Auburn IMO.

Oh I know and agree with you. Just an observation from me. Rick Pitino took Pearl to school in the tourney that year. In reality the absolute ceiling for the 08 team was an elite 8 imo.
Didn't UT beat Memphis that year, the team that should have won the National Championship, if it wasn't for Mario Chalmers ?

Yeah, Kansas won that year with some clutch shots by Chalmers down the stretch. IIRC they overcame a 9-point deficit with less than 2 minutes. That Memphis squad had Joey Dorsey, Chris Douglas Roberts, and of Course Derrick Rose. I am missing some other notables for sure. Seems like forever ago now.

True... but I don't care that he never played a minute in the NBA, Chris Lofton will always be my favorite BasketVol. That little guy had so much heart.

They look like two great players, and not a whole lot else. There was some good 3 point shooting near the end, but that was about all they got from the rest of the team. It's gonna be hard to go real deep without some help for those two.

I had to look it up myself. Two years earlier they had Shawne Williams and Rodney Carney on the team. The year after they had Tyreke Evans.

KD Johnson and Wendell Green both average 12 points per game.

Wasn't it Green who hit all those long 3 pointers? That's great, but they need more of that for the whole game, not just when trying to come back from 18 down. Obviously, Auburn is a tough team to beat, but they are showing a lot of cracks in their armor right now.

Did anyone see Pearl's press conference after the A&M game? It sounded like he was saying AU is the better team, which is a bad take after losing like that. Probably he's trying to boost their NCAA tourney seed.
