So now if Crompton is out for the season, does that make Jim Bob Cooter our 3rd string QB, or is it Bo Hardegree?

I recall Hardegree being offered a scholarship almost as a "package deal" to get Daniel Brooks. He has good size, and maybe he's a pretty good player, but I doubt he'd be on the roster if he hadn't gone to Brooks's high school.

Also, whatever happened to Brett Weyman? This is a guy that Max Emfinger called "a cross between Brett Farve and John Elway" in 2002 and other recruiting analysts listed him among the best QB's in the nation coming out of High School. Click on the article below for more:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/foo...5-28-maxcol.htm

He's supposed to be a super athlete with a really strong arm, as well as a true field general, yet he's listed on UT's Volunteer squad as a walk-on TE. I think he's bounced around from Hargrave Military Academy to UT to a scholarship at Louisiana Tech, then some other school, then back to UT again. If he's as good as he's cracked up to be, then why don't the coaches at least give him a shot to practice at QB at being the 3rd stringer?

It would be just dandy with me if I never had to worry about who the 3rd stringer was again. Last year was crazy.

I agree, but if you read the article about Weyman, it sure sounds like he deserves a shot at being UT's QB. I'm not a coach and I haven't ever seen him practice at UT, but he sounds legit.

There's a story here, but I can't remember exactly what happened. I remember that he was right up there with Chris Leak when he came out of high school though. Maybe Vol67 can shed some light?

Another article in USA today has him listed as one of the top high school QB's in the nation in the '02 class. Others included Leak, JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn (both at LSU), Vince Young (Texas), Kyle Wright (Miami), and Drew Tate (Iowa). All the others are now starting QB's (except for Flynn) for top 10 teams.

That's pretty good company, yet Emfinger and the rest of the analysts seem to have thought that Weyman could have been the best of the bunch.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. This kid is listed as a walk-on TE, a member of the "Volunteer Squad" in this year's media guide (which I looked through a copy of last night). He returned a kick in the Orange and White game, but saw no time at QB.

Might just be one of those high school stars that doesn't make the jump to Division 1-A ball???

Weyman left UT went to La Tech, spent 1 year at La Tech and transferred to UT as a walk-on. Its up in the air whether he plays QB or WR.

Cooter is #3
Hardegree is #4

Phil told us at the Big Orange Caravan back in may that Hardegree had made huge strides and opened some eyes during the spring. Weyman will not likely get a look. Fulmer seemed very impressed with Bo. I'd say he is likely the 3rd stringer right now.

Bo ended spring listed #4. Crompton wasn't listed. So with Crompton out Bo once again is #4 to open fall drills
