Not to make any excuses, but its an interesting stat to see how other teams have fared against some of UT's common opponents.........

Tennessee has only 1 win versus the following teams:
Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, LSU, Auburn, and Notre Dame....

Interestingly enough, Florida, Georgia and Auburn also only have 1 win versus that competition. South Carolina has 0 wins.... while LSU and Alabama have 2 wins....

How other teams have faired against those opponents this season (with some games remaining):

Florida (1-2)
---------------
Alabama L 3-31
LSU L 17-21
Georgia W 14-10
Nov 12 @ South Carolina

Georgia (1-1)
--------------
South Carolina W 17-15
Florida L 10-14
Nov 12 Auburn

Auburn (1-1)
--------------
South Carolina W 48-7
LSU L 17-20 OT
Nov 12 @ Georgia
Nov 19 Alabama

Alabama (2-0)
--------------
South Carolina W 37-14
Florida W 31-3
Nov 12 LSU
Nov 19 @ Auburn

LSU (2-0)
--------------
Florida W 21-17
Auburn W 20-17 OT
Nov 12 3 * @ Alabama

South Carolina (0-3)
----------------
Georgia L 15-17
Alabama L 14-37
Auburn L 7-48
Nov 12 Florida

Speaking of schedule, did anyone else think we have been setting ourselves up for a year like this by front loading our schedule? It's not exactly confidence-inspiring to start the SEC schedule losing to the top teams. It's been like this for years, and I'm about sick of it. Invert the schedule, and we look a little better.

Kentucky - W
Vanderbilt - W
Memphis - W
Notre Dame - L (maybe)
South Carolina - W (probably)
Alabama - W (I'd say we win this one)
Georgia - W (50/50 chance)
Mississippi - W
LSU
Florida
UAB

Worse case, though, we have a 3-0 start building momentum. I know we can't have everything our way as far as scheduling, but it really is rediculous... Can't we spread some of the stronger teams out over the season a little better?

I've always wished the Florida game was later in the year. It's always very important in the SEC East race, and sometimes important in the National picture. Be cool for it to be a big game late in the year like Michigan and Ohio State.

The 2001 game was awesome, and late in the year, for an unfortunate reason.

If I'm not mistaken, we don't have a huge say in our conference schedule do we? I'm not exactly sure but I always thought the conference schedule was more or less set up by the SEC with a little input from us.

Most years I'd agree with you that we seem to play better at the end of the year, but I we're just as bad offensively as we were earlier in the season this year.

And yes, our schedule is tough, but there is absolutely no excuse for losing to South Carolina at home. That's absurd.

UT has tried to get the Florida game moved towards the end of the schedule. But at the time, both UT and Florida were top 10 teams every season. The SEC felt that an early season game gave the SEC a better chance of having 2 teams compete in BCS bowls. Its all about the money$.

I thought this was a two or three loss season going in. The schedule is the toughest that I remember. I also expected better play from the QB position.

I was hoping UT was setting themselves up for a title run in Ainge's junior and senior season. So much for that.

come on dont give up. 2007 looks like it is very possible to make a run. the sec could look very different then.

12 games starting next year, SWEET!! The added toughness to 12 games is 6 games straight to start the season and GA is number 6 in Athens. Once we win out this season, we better recruit some stamina, endurance and DISCIPLINE for next year and beyond.

7 games in a row to start '07. Luckily it's only MSU at the end.

Finally, a post with some old blood chiming in. I feel better now. Nice to read to some sensibility. I thought I was going to have to go bak to the comics for good. I think the SEC portion of the schedule requires 8 games every year. The other 5 from your division and 3 from opposing division that rotate on 2 year cycles. Then you add 3 or 4 non-conf. Looks like '06 we took a little stronger non-conf. Even swap in ND for Cal, but the others are a little more formidle opponents overall. '07 looks to go a little weaker non-conf. Maybe we should do all non-conf in the PAC-10 so we can be a So. Cal. No wonder they play such a tough non-conf. There conference schedule is mostly blowoffs and patsies. They would get no respect.

yep, the UF/UT game is all about money...eithe one lose the 2nd or 3rd game of the season, and years past, both teams likely win out and finish in the top 7 or 8....that played out in 99 when we went to the Fiesta Bowl and I believe UF went to the Sugar?

Unfortunately for the SEC both teams have not been up to par the past 5 years, and we have only gotten one team in the BCS...which will likely be the case this year too.

I do finally like that there are two non conf. games before the UF game the next two years...i hated one game and week off lay out of the past...i think that's a huge reason we lost so many times to them in the 90's...they had already played 2 or 3 games, and we come in with one patzy win....

Oh well, those days seem to be such a long time ago right now...
