There's a new bogeyman lurking in the closet, and this one isn't imaginary. Us. One out of three children aged 6 to 11 fears that Ma Earth won't exist when they grow up, while more than half—56 percent—worry that the planet will be a blasted heath (or at least a very unpleasant place to live), according to a new survey.
Commissioned by Habitat Heroes and conducted by Opinion Research, the telephone survey polled a national sample of 500 American preteens—250 males and 250 females.
On a sliding scale of anxieties, minority kids have it worst; 75 percent of black children and 65 percent of Hispanic children believe that the planet will be irrevocably damaged by the time they reach adulthood.
Interestingly enough, kids vex over the state of the planet, especially when it came to safe and clean air and water, regardless of any pro-environmental measures on the part of their parents. A staggering 95 percent of the children surveyed said their parents pitched in by recycling, using rechargeable batteries, and conserving water and electricity.
"We commissioned the survey as a result of my own childrens' experiences with the recent fires in Australia as they expressed much concern for both their safety and the planet’s,” said Sharon Lowe, founder of Habitat Heroes, in a press release. “While it is upsetting to hear how many children in the United States have expressed similar concerns, I am more committed than ever to help educate children around the globe in a way that is not scary to them.”

Thoughts other than God bless government education?

It looks like the scare tactics used by Al Gore and many of the environmental whackjobs have hit their mark. Did those that promote this kind of rhetoric about the earths future just now think about what the fear mongering they helped engineer would do to very impressionable children? I think not!

It couldn't be scare mongering liars with a greedy agenda, could it??

In spite of what Al Gore said about the Arctic being ice free in five years, scientific data shows Arctic sea ice is at the highest it's been in seven years, and is now approaching the 1979-2000 mean level. Although not addressed in this article, Antarctic sea ice has been growing for the past 30 years, and is well above the 1979 - 2000 average.

I say these people need to find a new religion.

They already have, it's not new though, in reality it's older than sin.

This statement jumped out at me;

"We commissioned the survey as a result of my own childrens' experiences with the recent fires in Australia as they expressed much concern for both their safety and the planet’s,”

According to Gaia fanatics the cause was global warming but in reality much of the tragedy that caused the death of 180+ people and destroyed innumerable homes and other property can be laid right at the feet of greenie enviro wacko policies.

Most media coverage of the disastrous fires in Australia missed important information and directly or indirectly quoted environmentalists who incorrectly attributed them to global warming.

The mistake was policies that prevented the management of forests to clear underbrush eliminate dead trees and thus remove the fuel that changes the nature of natural fires.

Environmentalists who don’t know what they are talking about have forced the practice of preventing fires. There are examples in many places worldwide including policies in Federal parks in Canada and the US.

At a meeting in an Australian community near Melbourne one man said in true Australian style, “We’ve lost two people in my family because you dickheads won’t cut (dead) trees down.”

David Packham, a bushfire scientist for 50 years provides a good summary of the Australian situation and ends by urging, “In the face of this inferno, the perpetrators of this obscenity should have the decency to stand up and say they were wrong.”

They won't though, they will only continue to hawk their far fetched fanaticism.

BTW, the above link does an excellent job of explaining weather patters in a factual rather than fanatical way.

Cause of the fires is debatable, but regardless they are a standard part of the Australian ecosystem.

Interference in decision making by environmentalists blinded by a quasi-religious political view that ignores science and natural realities combined to make the situation deadly.

It also allowed them to claim it was due to global warming, an incomplete and totally false story too many in the media wanted to print. As James Gordon Bennett said about reporting, “Remember, son, many a good story has been ruined by over-verification.”

(“Dr. Tim Ball is a renowned environmental consultant and former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Ball employs his extensive background in climatology and other fields as an advisor to the International Climate Science Coalition, Friends of Science and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.” )

Kids around here are fearing the next civil war. And there is no short supply of adults to make sure they are fearful.

meh... I grew up in the 70's and 80's during the hight of the Cold War, and I would bet you at least 50% if not most kids back then felt the CCCP having their fingers on the bomb wasn't much to be optimistic about, either.

First, the next civil war would be the first civil war in America.

In a civil war two sides vie to see who will control the government, in the war between the states that wasn't the issue, the secessionist states never wanted to control the US government, they only wanted their constitutional right to withdraw from it.

You can't blame the average American working taxpayer for being upset about what is going on in Washington but imo talk of war is foolish.

The children shouldn't be fearful of anything, least of all the far fetched threat of global catastrophe due to bad weather.

Well, if there was ever any doubt about the politics of fear...let them be put to rest. Whether the threat is real or not it seems that the people in Washington and their complicit partners in the press have figured out one truth in policy.

If you scare enough people about corporate greed, terrorism, nuclear war or global warming you can convince them that it is OK for the gov to rob them blind.

Truer words were never spoken, you should post over here more often.

(I think that's the same thing I said the last time you posted.)

I used to worry about a severe global environmental problem coming about in my life time, but I am pretty sure we are going to kill a lot of each other off real soon.
