Anybody catch ESPN's editorial show this morning? At the end, when each reporter does his little "commentary," Jason (Whitlock?) went off on what he portrayed as the over-hyping of her dunks against Army. He called them "slam lay-ins," and said that women should keep the game below the rim, leaving the show-boating, tatooing, and tongue-wagging to the men.

Is it just me, or is this about the most absurd, chauvanistic, and sexist remark you've heard in a while?

Whitlock wishes he could get his feet off the ground, much less dunk. He's a pretty bitter man about everything sports related.

I couldnt agree more with what was said by the sports reporters. Her high school winning the dunk copntest was stupid, she did one of her lame dunks on that and won when there was guys doing 360 dunks and stuff. She should win if there was a womens dunk contest but she should be judged the same way as the guys if she is going to enter there competition.

Jason Whitlock's fata$$ can sky just high enough to get the butter off of the top shelf of the refrigerator. While I don't care much about the women's game, the NBA, or sports reporters in general, Parker DID dunk the ball. Like the unassisted triple play or in-the-park home run, it doesn't define the game or happen often but it does happen, so celebrate it rather than slam it or call it a fluke.

Yeah, it was sexist. Yeah, Parker's dunks were pretty weak but she grabbed rim so it counts anyways.

Also in reality, the dunk was a little hyped... Every time a woman does it some start saying "Oh, the women's game is going to be revolutionized, we'll see more inside tough post play." No, you won't. Every once in a while a woman comes along with a supernaturally tremendous amount of height/athletic ability but they are one in a million. But with the nature of the women's game, hard post play just doesn't happen on the same level as the men. Once again I'm not bashing Candace. It's incredible that she dunked, and I wish I could but at just shy of 6' with a stocky frame I'm probably never going to. Her dunk changed absolutely nothing though, just a freak occurence that happens every once in a while and is admittedly very cool to see.

It was weak, but it was a dunk.

O, and matt, the only reason she won the dunk contest was because she dunked. The rest missed their dunks. They didn't lose because she was a girl dunking, they lost because they couldn't throw it down.

It was a pretty sexist remark. But be honest, it wasn't much of a dunk either.

Yeah it wasn't much of a dunk. I was impressed by her leaping ability but not so much her technique. She's not really throwing down.

Now, Michelle Snow's dunks were powerful. Candace needs to learn a two hander. Maybe Stan can teach her better technique on her dunks.

It's not like she's a red shirt freshman or anything, what a jackass.

It is what it is. Parker is not gonna "revolutionize" the women's game and she isn't gonna feel up the stat sheet with dunks. She can dunk the basketball. I'm not gonna make it more than what it is or take away from what it is. Its a dunk. Its not a flashy dunk, its not a "high-flying" dunk. She is a girl and girls can't do flashy, high-flying dunks.

That is not sexist, thats just the way it is. Women will never be on the same level as men from an athletic standpoint. Its the "way of the world". Men don't give birth to children, thats just the way it worked out.

Candace Parker has the potential to be the greatest women's player ever, IMO. She has great size, she is a terrific ball-handler for her size, she can take people off the dribble and create, she is a big-time shot blocker, she can be a great rebounder and defender, she has great touch around the basket, she can score down low using either hand, she is really developing that 15 ft jumper and fall away shot, she is becoming a good FT shooter, etc. She is also just a RS Freshman. She has a chance to be a great basketball player, the best ever. Again, that is a great WOMENS basketball player. You have to keep things in perspective and appreciate things for what they are. Greatness comes in different forms, and Candace Parker has a chance for greatness.

I like the girls game just the way it is. If on the rare occassion you get to see a dunk, appreciate the effort and go on. As for this guys comments...This jerk has never seen a basketball. His comments are totally without merit.

I don't think she'll be catching oops or dunking it from the ft line, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her dunking it once every few games in a couple years if she continues to progress.

I am going to get technical here because that is a really sexist reamrk. The definition of "dunk" according to Websters is to throw (a basketball) into the basket from above the rim. If I am not mistaken this is what Candace did. He is just jealous because he knows that she would kill him in a game of basketball.

Stan has got to learn how to get rim before he can do that.

Agreed, but not bad considering she tore an ACL just a year ago.

If I'm Stan I'm not really worried about dunking. In addition to being on her way to being a great BBall player she is very pretty.

My thoughts exactly. I am wondering if an offseason of rehab and training will make her even more impressive "above the rim." For some reason, I think I heard a while back that prior to her injury, she was able to go up from a still, flat-footed position and ram it home. Now THAT would be impressive. Anyone know?

Whether it was amazing or not, it should be said that it completely changed that particular game. The LV looked slow and the dunk woke them up. It also took the wind out of Army. They looked like they realized their fate after that.
