Why don't the Vols have a pitching camp for high school kids?

An old friend of mine told me that GA and GA Tech are both recruiting his son as a pitcher after his performance at their pitching camps. I asked about UT (where the kid dreams of playing - baseball season ticket holders forever) and he said they haven't shown an interest and that they don't even have a pitching camp.

Because we have not had a full-time, qualified pitching coach who could teach and judge talent for about 2-1/2 years.

Disagree with that statement completely. I know Fred was your guy, but I don't think Beverlin is the weak link on the staff. If he got fired Thursday, he'd have a job Friday.

Fred was the man for alot of the players. Still is ... Beverlin is ok but he is not a Fred Coral.

No offense.... (like Ricky Bobby)

but by good coach if you mean "Yes Todd, that's a great idea." or "What do you think Todd?" "Yes Todd Yes Boss Great idea coach."

After Fred "quit" the last thing Todd wanted was an experienced baseball guy looking over his shoulder. Nope, Todd needed a Yes Man.

From my experience, that is not the professional relationship between Raleigh and Beverlin.

Is it true that CTR is more comfortable with Beverlin because he is someone that he was allowed to select on his own, yes. But that does not make him a "Yes Man."

As I've said here on previous occasions, the situation with CTR and Fred was not something that was good for either. When Raleigh was hired, he was told "Here's your pitching coach. You have to have him."

Now, I think that Fred is and was an excellent pitching coach. He loved it here and bled orange. But I do not believe that it is good or healthy for any head coach entering a situation to be told that someone HAS to be a member of his/her staff. Those situations rarely work out, and it certainly didn't in this case. Similar demands on staffing kept Mike from landing at least two head coaches during the search that bore Derek Dooley. Luckily, Chaney and Thompson worked out in that example.

Couldn't agree more with this statement. TR surrounds himself with "yes" men.
