I was listening to 680 The Fan today down here in Atlanta. Buck Belue, the former Georgia QB, is the co-host on one of the programs (Buck & Kincade). He predicted a UGA blowout tomorrow. Can't remember his exact score, but it was something like 45-10. He thinks that UGA's defense will destroy UT's O-line.

I actually like Buck. In spite of being a Georgia guy, he's normally reasonably objective. But I have to think we're being underestimated in the media!

We played tough D against Oklahoma. OU scored 48 on La Tech, 52 on Tulsa, and 45 on West Virginia. They only scored 34 on us, and one of those touchdowns was a 100 yard return by the defense. Our drive summary from the game actually looks pretty good. We struggled in the first quarter, giving up three long drives, but shut them down on 3 out of 4 drives in the 2nd quarter, and 5 out of 6 drives in the second half. We got better as the game went on.

Meanwhile, UGA's defense completely collapsed against South Carolina. I thought UGA would be a national title contender going into the season, but they couldn't stop anything against Spurrier.

I think we'll run the ball better against UGA than we did against OU. Our biggest issue on offense was that we were one-dimensional. I don't think we'll completely fix that issue this week, but we'll look a bit better.

I'm not predicting a UT win. But I do think the national media is still greatly underestimating us based on the Dooley years and 2013.

I don't know that this is the week, but this 2014 Vols squad will send a message soon. If not tomorrow, then maybe against the Gators next week!

Go VOLS!

I truly don't understand why anybody would predict a blowout. We should have beaten them last year. We were a less talented team than we are now. They had Gurley AND Aaron Murray.

Someone on college gameday(or some ESPN program) said UGA would win by the same margin as OU

Gurley sat out against us last year. But I still think we get the W this year.

This series has had several blowouts in games that were expected to be close... and those blowouts haven't always gone the way of the favored team.

BUT.... many of those games were Fulmer vs Richt... very similar coaches. Jones is dissimilar from those two in many ways.

I am unsure if UT can overcome all of UGA's talent. But here's where I think the game will be decided-

1- The OL has to build on the 2nd half of OU. UT allowed 5 sacks but only one after half and none in the 4th qtr. At the same time, they began to get something going in the run game. Worley has to stay relatively clean... and UT needs a credible run game. UT's WR's should be able to hurt UGA if these two things happen.

2- UT has to be able to play man on 1st and 2nd downs then load the box and get creative with run defense. They have to get UGA behind the chains. This pretty much comes down to Sutton. Can he shut down one side of the field?

I actually like Buck. In spite of being a Georgia guy, he's normally reasonably objective. I definitely think we're still at least a year away from being truly competitive. On paper, UGA has a big advantage. They are mad about the loss to SC. They have the best running back corps in the nation. Our O-line is a major weakness and could make it difficult to move the ball. And yet, I think Buck and the national media are still greatly underestimating our Vols.

We might have lost by 24 to OKlahoma, but that game was a couple of plays and a bad call away from being close. We played tough defense against an Oklahoma offense that has been running up points on everyone. OU scored 48 on La Tech, 52 on Tulsa, and 45 on West Virginia. They only scored 34 on us, and one of those touchdowns was a 100 yard return by the defense.

I'm not predicting a UT win. Georgia is really hungry after losing to SC, the game is in Athens, and they have superior talent in more position groupings than we do. But I do think the national media is still greatly underestimating us and I have much more optimism now than I did two or three years ago.

I'd bet my life he was probably predicting a blowout in '04 also.

Hmmm. UGA homer who played QB there. Not a shock he would predict a blowout.

He's not a homer at all if you've ever listened to him. He has predicted UGA to lose plenty of times. I was a bit surprised he picked a blowout tomorrow.

That said, he has been wrong plenty of times. :)

Gurley and both starting safeties (Matthews and Norman) did not play. 2 starting wide receivers (Bennett and Wesley), running back Keith Marshall, and punter Colin Barker left due to injuries suffered in the game. Basically they finished with 7 starters out after going up on us 17-3.

Can we please eliminate "should have" from VN?

People have forgotten how we lost that game, because all they remember is Pig's fumble. We went up 31-24 with 1:54 left in the game. Georgia started on their own 25 and drove 75 yards down the field to tie 31-31, and go into overtime.

We had both a face mask and an interference called on us inside our own 10 yard line in the last few seconds, setting them up for a td pass from the 2 yard line after 2 incompletions.

Pig Howard fumbled out of the endzone which was ruled a touchback and no points for our first and only overtime possession. They just needed a field goal to win. However, if Pig had not fumbled, they would have gone for a td, and may have eventually won anyway. We lost at the end of regulation on penalties, and not stopping Georgia when we had the chance.

I predict a close game tomorrow. If it comes down to a game winning touchdown drive for Worley, do you think we will get it in?

I might be biased. By older sister actually dated him briefly back in late 70's early 80's. Never liked the guy much. And I absolutely hate UGA even if my other sister is an Alum. GBO
