What else could you possibly call it...when Tyler Smith, the 2008 SEC Player of the Year is voted 5th place for the same honor( 2009 pre-season)...and get this...behind... a player who has never even played one single play in a NCAA basketball game. And what's with Wayne Chism being completely left off the All SEC team(behind A.J. Ogilvy...(huh?))? The only other word that I can come up with than "No Respect" is, ... BIAS. Come on media, I thought you guys took pride in looking at the facts? What happened this time? :zeitung_lesen:

All Conference will not be decided by January which is when I would expect TN fans to crow the loudest after UK has early struggles and TN destroys everyone on our schedule including Purdue or whoever we face off against in the championship.

What will decide the respect and the only thing these seniors will care about is finishing all the games, crushing the easy opponents and then trying to beat the ones with tons of talent like Memphis, Kansas and Kentucky.

Regardless of how it all plays out in the season and in the SEC tournament, what TN needs most is the depth to be a disruptive team that wears opponents out in the SEC tournament. If Goins can stop dribble penetration by opposing PGs, we will be a much better team this year. I will also repeat what I say all the time, JP Prince will get over the very low bar of expectations people have for him.

If Chism, Smith and Hopson all 3 play like 2nd team All SEC, and Prince and Maze/Goins play like 3rd team All SEC, we will do better than the teams with one guy getting sick numbers.

Sorry...Reference was to the 2008 preseason voting. :good!:
he fell off the world because his play was generally less than expected last season. He abandoned his strengths and tried to be a highlight reel. Rarely is that rewarded with Ws or postseason accolades.

I really don't have a problem with any of the "slights" you mention. If John Wall is anywhere near as good as advertised, he's a serious candidate for POY. AJ Ogilvy is a solid choice for 1st team.

I don't know where you are getting your list, so I don't know what other choices bother you, but I see good arguments for both of those guys.

Agreed. Its a complete travesty. Borderline insane. Someone should riot against the man, get naked and start the revolution.

Pre-season rankings are worthless. Don't sweat the small stuff.

You say IF: You have a valid point...for all preseason stuff...it's always IF. :)

.

The list(information) comes from Griffith's GoVolsXtra.com article.

The Omission of Chism is my beef, don't get that one. Ogilvy is second team choice (I believe)...Chism was left out(maybe he was last place for all I know?) . From a team performance stand point, that might actually be a good thing...I'm sure that CBP will use that sometime, somewhere.

Both were second team last year. To promote one and not the other isn't that much of a travesty. As a non-biased observer, based on performance, if I had to make a prediction, I would vote the same way.

In the preseason, BTW, everything is "IF."

Silliness. Revolutions are almost never started by naked people.

TN with 4 sr's starting should win a ton of games this year...I could care less about pre-season rankings. It where you rank come march that I worry about.

Speaking of naked...Chism has slapped Ogilvy naked, and hid is clothes from him the past two seasons when they have faced each other.

Chism's omission isn't about what he is capable of doing. It's about the number of nights per season that he no shows.

It amazes me how 1 game he'll be battling in the post the whole game and the next game he's raining 3's. Is that what Bruce want's out of him ya think?

I seem to recall Taz Mitchell doing this to Tyler Smith last season, as well. Is he your choice for POY?

Same point, different proof. The preseason awards are a prediction of who will have the best season. Ogilvy's season was better than Chism's last year, and I can understand why someone would think it will be better this year.

I heard an interview with Pearl last week where he said he wanted Chism to raise his 3pt. % (from I believe, 33% to 34% maybe...not much). So, it did not sound like that he wanted Chism to cut back on the number of 3 pointers taken, just to shoot them a little more accurately when he goes outside.

I think it means he wants Chism to take less 3's, and the ones he does take be higher % shots. For Chism, this should be 3's from the top of the key. It seems like he is money from there.

The absolute easiest way to increase your shooting percentage is to take better shots. In Chism's case, that would definitely mean less shots.

I don't know what Pearl told him, but as a fan who knows something about basketball, I'd like to see his big arse on the block much more often, making spin moves and getting rebounds, instead of holding hands with Scotty Hopson at the 3-point line. But then I've never been a big believer in having your center 25' from the basket.

I definitely would place Taz and Tyler in front of a kid whose sneekers have not even squeaked the floor of NCAA competition yet.

My vote would go to Patterson, but that is mainly because I don't know enough about Wall. The sportswriters and coaches (I don't know which list Griff used,) should know more. And from what I have read and heard, predicting the kid as POY doesn't seem unreasonable.

Would Derrick Rose have been an unreasonable choice his freshman year? Kevin Durant? Michael Beasley? Greg Oden? If Wall is what everyone who has seen him seems to think he is, that is the right category.

If the scrimmage at BBM is any indication, you will love Demarcus Cousins then. This MF will shoot it from anywhere. I know he will shoot some 3's, because he is actually good behind the arc. Just hoping that was more for show than anything.

He got a rebound, dribbled it up the floor and pulled up at the arc for 3. Barely caught rim. Calipari was on the headset with the announcers and just said " I knew he would shoot that".

We shall see I suppose.
