Poll Suggests U.S. Troops Support McCain 3-1 - FOXNews.com Elections

A poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.
According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen and women support McCain, while 23 percent support Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted troops.

No surprise;however, take a look at the contributions from military personnel to McCain and Obama. It isn't correlated data either

So? Do you not get it? People voting for McCain are for the most part not excited about the man. Additionally, people to the right do not view government as a savior and thus I think less likely to donate to a campaign. I have never donated my money to one of these people, does not change the fact that I still vote.

It is lower than it is typically, generally the military votes 80/20 Republican.

:eek:k:

there is clearly a racial element at play here.

I agree that race may be a contributing factor, but I think it's more than that. My friends and family in the military (a small sample i know) are mostly voting for Obama and they're all white. The ones voting for McCain are all officers.

My late father was a decorated vet of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Bomber pilot. Base commander. I know exactly whom he would be voting for in this election. there wouldn't be any question in his mind.

haha, seriously! Do you think the majority of military members even read the military times or would bother responding to one of their polls.

so the underachievers are the ones voting for obama? i kid. i kid

No. My point was that McCain's only support is from officers, not that at all officers are supporting McCain. In fact,, I know just as many officers voting for Obama as McCain (they're evenly split).

I agree, the JO's are going Obama while the Seniors are going for McCain. I will say that this election is a far cry from the Gore/Bush election in military voting terms.

I would say the majority of NPS is going Obama, same with FNMOC.

Why do you think that is?

The majority of the Joe's are not voting. Most do not go through the trouble to get absentee ballots. I would say that the voting contingent in the military starts at about E-6.

The push it really hard, and give ample opportunities to register, fill out an absentee ballot etc..

I know from my first election (2004) to this one, more and more are going to vote. At least they say they are.

True, but the E-6 through 0-4 (minus E-7 through E-9) seem to be going for Obama, at least around here they are.
