Transcript of Gov. Jindal's GOP response to Obama speech - CNN.com

Today in Washington, some are promising that government will rescue us from the economic storms raging all around us.

God bless him! Screw the government with no vasoline!

During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. When I walked into his makeshift office, I'd never seen him so angry. He was yelling into the phone: "Well, I'm the Sheriff and if you don't like it you can come and arrest me!" I asked him: "Sheriff, what's got you so mad?" He told me that he had put out a call for volunteers to come with their boats to rescue people who were trapped on their rooftops by the floodwaters. The boats were all lined up ready to go, when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn't go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, "Sheriff, that's ridiculous." And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: "Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!" Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and go start rescuing people.

God bless him!

Who in their right mind other than some pencil neck government worker would even ask this crap?

Thoughts?

Jindal seemed akward initially, but he seemed to get in a groove after a little while. The setting of just having him walk into a room and start talking was rather strange. Most importantly, I liked his message.

what I think the GOP should do from now on is this, every time the Obamassiah gives a speech that warrants a response, the GOP should hold a rally and give their response from that rally with an enthusiastic crowd of supporters around them. Sitting in a little room with naught but a camera and light in your face simply isn't going to cut it against Obama's campaign-style production values.

I liked some of his message but as MG pointed out he was too hokey at times. His family stories were a bit shallow.

I think he missed an opportunity when talking about an alternative approach - he needed to specifically spell out that approach and how it would make a difference. Just saying it was tax cuts isn't going to work with the current attitude about Republicans.

B- rating overall (same I give Obama but for different reasons).

And part of that grade is admittedly an expectations thing. The Republican leadership and their lapdog commentator army were spooling us up and touting him as the Boy Wonder.

He was a letdown, that's for sure.

(Note: I imagine he will have better days when his handlers drop the stagecraft.)

nice dig at fox news without mentioning "Fox News". You consistently ignore the antics of the Pro-Obama media, yet you will take time to hammer FNC. It's sort of like swerving your car to hit a cat rather than avoid it.

Wow, change a couple of key words, like democrat for republican and you have perfectly described Obama.

Actually, its interesting. After the speeches last night the Fox commentators (Hume, etc.) were basically all saying that Obama's speech had been successful in terms of political value but that Jindal looked awful. I was reasonably impressed that they had taken a step back and been somewhat objective, at leats in terms of the power of the speeches.

Now, this morning their little morning show triumverate of sniping dachsunds (with the collective IQ of a rock) were back on the usual stuff, i.e. "Will Obama's trillion dollar piece of crap spending plan work?" and they go on and answer each other's snide questions with even snider remarks.

Between the three of them on that morning show, they have the intellectual horsepower of my Grandmother. And she's been dead for two years. The guy with the dark hair looks like his folks skipped a gene or two. The tall guy is a weatherman (and a poor one). The woman just sits there and nods and asks her cohosts more lobbed questions. They are the commentating equivalent of a roundtable discussion of kindergarteners.

Or they could just be like you and mindlessly drone on "Hussein, Hussein, Hussein ...." in hopes that your brain wasting disease will slip into and infect the rest of us.

If you ever actually make a coherent argument instead of just antagonize people with your not-so-subtle racism and namecalling, maybe people would take you a little more seriously.

odd that you would be whining about their commentary on some actual substance because you were looking to hear commentary on composure during speeches. Wonder what that's all about?

By the way, anything negative they said about this single biggest collection of pork in history was probably on the money.

Why do you watch Faux News?

You seem more like a Morning Joe kind of person!

I think Piyush did an OK job for a guy who hasn't shown me his birth certificate yet or clarified that whole Voodoo stuff.

Scarborough is a moderate Republican, in my judgment. He used ot be in the state legislature and I watched him and he was pretty conservative. On the show, he walks closer to the middle, though from time to time he gets going (usually him and Buchanan) and they move a bit to the right.

Buchanan is really entertaining. I think he has mellowed over time and he does a decent job of being a conservative who is not afraid to crticize Republicans or praise Democrats, when either deserves it.

You act as if MSNBC doesn't carry the Obama flag high and proud. They both lean to their own sides, that's obvious, but Fox, from what I have seen, doesn't take it as far as MSNBC, and when I say MSNBC I mean Yankee Boy and Maddow. Like when you say Fox you mean O'Reilly and Hannity.

Of course they might want to recognize the fact 40% of the pork are republican projects. :hi:

Agreed. I watch them every morning and it is as good a balance of right and left politics as you will see on TV. Joe has been very outspoken as to his disdain for this bill, but shhhhhhhhhh, we will let the republicans in here keep thinking all media besides Fox are far left liberals
