Last night during Vol Calls, it was mentioned that the Noise Rule had been lifted. Truthfully, I didn't even know one existed. How exactly did this rule work and was it ever inforced? It seems pretty crazy to me. Was it to prevent stadiums from cranking up non-crowd noise? Regardless..I'm a bit confused. :dunno:

If the visiting team could not put the ball in play due to excessive noise (totally within the referee's discretion to make that call) the referee could charge the home team with a timeout.

They've really backed off the noise penalties the past few years. There was a time there for a couple of years when referees were more apt to at least warn the crowd for excessive noise, but it was always kind of silly.

All it would do was make the fans louder:rock:

Then they can definitely get rid of the rule. They haven't cheered for much at Miss St in quite a while. Now if we can just all start piling into Neyland and getting warmed up...

The rule was to try and get rid of things like the cowbells at Miss. ST.
Yeah, that really worked well, didn't it:glare:

(I say this as someone who sat on the aisle next to the MS State section in Atlanta in '98; and made the trip to Stark-middle of freakin' nowhere-ville in '02)

I was there too. Rednecks with cowbells and domed stadiums definitely don't mix.
