We got in town Friday morning for our annual trip and for the first time, we made a consorted effort to see two performers that I've enjoyed for a while.

Freddie King and Trombone Shorty did not dissappoint.

If you ever make it down, check to see if Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews is in town. You'll find him at a place called Tipitina's. Its located on the bank of the river near the Westin.

Little Freddie King is aging so if you hear he's in town, you'd better go. Its my understanding that he is only there for bigger weekends, like Festival. His play list hasnt expanded from his orginal stuff, but he can play just about anything. If you get lucky and can catch him at a small place, House Of Blues, Krazy Korner, ect.. its all the better. He headlined this year so it was not as "intimate" as previous performances.

Lastly, for those of you that enjoy a good gospel Choir, Saint Agustines Catholic Church puts on a Mass like no other. The history behind the building, the parrish, and all that church has gone through is an amazing story. The music however, is worth the two hour services. If you're not Catholic, you wont be alone in there, so dont let that steer you away. (Take a cab though, its a helluva walk from the Quarter and you'll be worn out by the time you get back)

Great trip. Great folks. Good to catch up with some old friends, a few toasts to those that are no longer with us, and glad to be able to spend quality time with my wife in our "second home city".

I've never had the pleasure of seeing him live but Trombone Shorty is the deal.

They break it up well and you dont notice that you've been there for that long. One thing they did do, which I thought was pretty awesome was, instead of passing the plate, in mid song two guys brought out a 15 gallon bucket and set it at the alter. It was filled by the time I got up there to drop in my c note.

lulz. sorry. maybe I don't know the whole story, but seems like an exorbitant amount of money to drop in a bucket already filled with regular patrons' money. pretty high admission fee iyam

To be honest, we really only try to do a little extra when we're in town at whichever church we attend Mass in. If we were at the Cathedral, I might not have done as much.
