Probably because they added Reagan Beers who was one of, if not THE BEST big in the PAC last year. Plus, they’ve been one of the top Big 12 teams the last couple of years ( not saying a lot I know)
I was trying to figure out how Diana Taurasi made the Olympic team, then I saw where Jennifer Rizzotti was on the committee.
This wasn't the best team USA could've fielded. Judging from the L they took going against the WNBA team, several of them could've been replaced for a lot better team.
For the record, I don't think the men's team was a top 3 USA team that we've seen since 1992.
Kudos to Gabby. She played great. Glad we were able to grab the Gold.It was a gift, plain and simple. Taurasi happened to play for the "right" team in college, so she got a parting gift. Same as all the other players in their little circle. They make sure to take care of their own, and no one has the guts - or the interest, probably - to create a controversy over it.
The women's Team USA group was flat out lucky to get that last win. France outplayed them in a number of areas. Gabby Williams played her heart out. I wouldn't have minded one bit to see her get that win. She wanted it more than anyone out there, and it's hard not to be impressed by that.

Don’t agree with roster construction, but I ain’t got a vote…. Just an opinion.
That final shot brings to mind 1.1 seconds. I pray, that confirms the end of an era.
I get it. Not a huge fan of either Bristol or the associated Huskies, but, they do come down here to play real basketball and get their ass kicked. Hopefully the LV get to participate…Oh ho ho, you must have missed the part during the postgame interviews when one of the NBC announcers asked Stewart if Taurasi might come back again for Los Angeles, which she deflected answering. She did have a little smile though. We may not be through the desert just yet.
Also, you've got me dead to rights. After a decade of the team being 30-40% from, well, you know, that one place, and then the Parker thing in 2016 ... well ... mmm. I wasn't rooting against them or anything, I'm glad the USA got the gold, but I can't say I watched too much of their tournament run.
Taurasi done a heck of a job sitting on the bench and averaging 0.7 ppg and 1 big rebound. Waste of a roster spot. Let the 2 UCONN fans start griping about this comment.
The bigger question is why was she selected, there lies the rub. I don’t throw shade on a player being selected and accepting, every player thinks they still have greatness in them towards the end, the real issue was her being selected in the first place. I guess one could just lay it all on the “honoring” an all time great player one last time, it’s been done before many times in the Olympics in team sports. But hindsight here is crystal clear, that this was one too many for her.Selfish. She tarnished her own career with this Olympics. What she thought was going to set her apart made her a total laughing stock.
She would have looked way better if she was selected and graciously declined. Wasn’t a fan before, now just seeing her face makes me want to puke. What she did flies in the face of everything the Olympics are about. She put her own, ego, pride and platform above the entire team just to set a meaningless record.
Choosing Olympic basketball squads in USA is all Political on both Women and Men's team. The bigger question is why was she selected, there lies the rub. Isiah Thomas still bitching because Micheal Jordan kept him from being in 1992 squad. What's so funny is his coach Chuck Daly was on the basketball staff.
