Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Iowa State preview, 7 players who shot 40% or better from three plus Crooks down low….should be a great team to watch. Hansford was a great addition btw. She was awesome against SC in the tourney.

Note Hansford off the bench with 4 threes, and Beers outplayed Cardoso.

Who avg 17/10 in a loaded PAC12 and was All American, but otherwise, yeah, nothing to see here.
The conference thing doesn’t really mean much in this day and age. Have to see how it plays out during the next season with the changes. I wouldn’t bet against her until we see what happens on the court. Her skill set has been a missing piece for that team for years, so we’ll see how it plays out. Will be exciting to see and no one knows until they play the games. I’m so excited for this season to start and see how it all plays out. This may be a season of surprises and extreme parity.

I could see a case for Ruby on that list, though in the end I think Spencer has a bigger impact for the transfers. Coop is the top dog in Rocky Top now however imo, and yes I think most of the newcomers will be good.

That may be your opinion, but had the big 12 stayed intact with OU and UT, they would have 6 teams ranked in the top 16 as of today in the pre-season poll. So even without Mulkey, the big 12 is polling respectfully from the so called "experts."

They polled well last year. How did that turn out?

Chen on any list like this is an absolute joke. ESPN is no longer a sports outlet. It’s literal hot garbage all the time.

Never forget the WNBA ROTY projections all season. Never forget. Lmao.

Okay, so in your cluttered mind, what's wrong with Chen? Really, I would like to know why you feel that way. Is there a real good reason or are you just spouting off about things or players you really don't know anything about? I remember months ago I mentioned that she would be available for any team needing a PG. So, just want to know your reasoning.

I know plenty about her. She isn’t an impact player at a P5 level. Period.

people who entertain this weird thread seriously have no life or are between the ages of 10-17 years old or 50-80 years old fighting a battle that neither side will never win .....just embarrassingly pathetic from both sides lol

Which tangent(s)?
The reason I created the separate thread. AR vs CC. Pretty sure that’s the sub thread they’re talking about.

All we need her to do is play PG so Paige can play off the ball. Player of the year in the Ivy isn't chopped liver, and she scored 18 against us. Her maturity and experience is what Geno was looking for, so I believe she will surprise a lot of people. Its either that or throw in a freshman.

I’m sure you meant sophomore, Arnold has starting PG experience of course. As for Chen, she is a wonderful player and the Ivy League has delivered more than a few of those the past three years as their best players seek a 5th year of eligibility which the Ivy League does not offer.

Early on Coop is going to have to get settled in. I wouldn’t put that much of a load on her shoulders and in fact with Jewel Spear, Samara Spencer, Ruby Whitehorn, Sara Puckett, Lazaria Spearman, and Alyssa Latham having ACC and SEC experience as starters Coop and Boyd will be allowed to transition into their roles after their redshirt seasons. Coop’s upside is tremendous.

Well, that's the line of logic that Connecticut fans used for South Carolina's first national championship, right? That they didn't go through CT to win it, so it shouldn't REALLY count. So why shouldn't this line work as well???

you’re changing the subject.

She hasn’t won the SEC. She may never win the SEC.

She certainly won the National title. I’m sure they’re all very proud of that as they should be.

Actually, I did mean freshman. If we are healthy there is enough talent to have multiple players coming off the bench, so we needed another PG to lead those players as well as subbing for Paige and Chen, and you are right, KK has the experience. Of course, it could be the opposite with Chen coming off the bench. It looks like that now, but as we have just seen with the Wynn injury that nothing is certain, and very little has gone to plan the last 3 years. It would be nice if the Huskies and LVols had complete rosters when they meet in February. That could be an epic match-up.

Your point looks stupid. Like, real dumb. Dumb dumb.

And you keep trying to make it.

Which makes you look dumb.

South Carolina winning the 2024 SEC Championship was more difficult than winning the National Championship.

Who could forget 74-73?

A HS kid demanding a million dollars in ridiculous

Only Texas or tech have the boosters who would be willing to pay for that.

Paige, Juju, Clark, Reese, etc didn’t even demand for nonsense like that. I can’t see that being a good thing for team dynamics either
Yep. Just straight up nonsense. Plenty of kids are great in HS and then can't make the leap to college. Prove it first and the money will come later.

No one should be entertaining this demand.

We're at an interesting capitalist inflection point in WBB. What are teams willing to pay for unproven but tantilizing potential? Kim's trying to hold the consumerist line against such a huge risk.

OTOH, you know that some wealthy donors are going to take the risk and we'll be off to the races. Every donor base lives in fear of not keeping up w the Jones'. Bound to happen, esp w zero rules or guardrails in place right now.

Ship sailed in men's college sports long ago. Nico is a great example of the risks. Got his big bag but now has to develop like a highly paid pro, not a barely 20 yr old relatively inexperienced soph. You can see the extra pressure as he struggles. The 10% talent fee looms over every play

I know the agents, lawyers and athletes making bank on this right now don't care, but it's easy to see this will not end well, esp for smaller schools.
