Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

I sure get tired of people whining about referees --- nobody is perfect, no one, that is the way of the world ---- what I hate most is when a TV/radio announcer decides to not only call the play-by-play (as if they ever do that anymore) but also wants to give an ongoing critique of the refs from her or his seat yards farther away from the action than the refs themselves --- frankly, if anyone thinks he or she can do a better job of refereeing, then sign up for the job -- referees are always needed

Does this post make you feel lonely?

No disrespect to her, but I still can’t believe she was the SEC player of the year. She didn’t have a great year.

I find her to be overly dramatic, but...20.4 ppg on 45% shooting, 7.3 rpg, and 3.6 apg are impressive numbers. Her scoring went down by 3 points, but her FG%, rebounding and assists all went up. Any coach would be more than happy with her output.

I still think Dungee and Re could of as easily been the SEC player of the year. But she is a talent for sure !

So many "questionable calls" by the referees yesterday, empathizes the need for offenses to keep the referees opinions out of the game as much as possible....

When a player shoots and scores with a nice deep 3 ball, rarely does the referee get involved with the shot....

One of the questionable calls that really got my attention yesterday, was the player that caught the end bounds pass (Florida State) and was immediately knocked down by the defender and called for traveling...(It's one of the ones above)

Had a friend that was a referee out west for years in the Pac system...He once told me in most games there are at least a half dozen calls, or more, that can go either way, and the ref would be justified in whichever way he called it...

As stated earlier by Coach J, let's hope we don't get the refs from the A&M game...That pair had a stressful day....

In any event, I'm proud of the Lady Vols, and proud of you/us fans...We are the best.

I think arguments could have been made for all three (and Aliyah Boston too, for that matter). But as historically has been the case, the award was Rhyne's to lose since she won last year and was the preseason pick to win it this year. Based on what she produced, I don't think there was much of an argument to knock her from her perch.

Speaking of Dungee, I wonder if the bitterness from yesterday's game causes her to rethink coming back next year? If some of the seniors decide to come back next year with Jersey joining, they could be one of the SEC favorites.

Yea, I dunno. I believe players like her and Rennia would be first rounders in the following years WNBA draft as well. I think Slocum is gone

Not really sure why Arkansas seniors would come back for another rinse and repeat season. They don't match up well with any SEC team, really. The style Neighbors has come up with doesn't work well in the SEC. When you have no size or rebounding, you're just not going to consistently win in this league.

As a fellow official all coaches ask is to be consistent. If you have a questionable call get together and talk about it to get it right. Coaches would rather you at least check with the other officials rather than go with yourself. If replay is available use it

Yeah not having any serviceable rebounders really put them at a deficit in the SEC. If they had just one big girl who could rebound they would have been almost unbeatable with their guard play. Didn’t even need a big to score, just for defense and rebounding.

Must have burned Neighbors to see Dauda decide to go to Baylor instead of staying in-state. Pairing her with Jersey would have been a great foundation to build on.

Sasha Goforth was the other big in-state loss, even if she is a perimeter player.

I agree, but tell this to Geno. Arky is only team to beat UConn this year.
