Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Kellie Harper built that program MO State fans need to sing Kellie praises

Which we did. Steadily and repeatedly. We weren't exactly happy to see her go.

But, you can't deny what Mox has since done. Gone above and beyond what Kellie had done. Albeit, yes more experienced at this time.

MO State will never bring in the top players, so I don't know what people are expecting when they say "not exactly bringing a lot in". Our coaches will always have to identify system players and get the most out of them in 4 years. It will be a wait and see to that about Mox, yes.

Taylor Woodhouse is a top 100 PG. Definitely expected to make an impact in Calip's shoes if she decides to leave.

I'm hoping we hit the transfer portal hard if our seniors decide to move on.

She might prove me wrong but I truly think Coach Mox at Mo. State is headed for trouble after this season. She loses the majority of Kellie’s players and doesn’t have much coming in. Unless she pulls some big fish out of the portal they are back to a .500 team. She’s losing all of her size and brining in 3 guards.

Watching them they do a lot of the same things defensively that they were doing before. A lot of the same things I saw our players starting to do this year. Mo State still executes better defensively than we did this year. Hopefully we improve even more next season. Kellie had them trained up and they were a young team when she left. Props to coach Mox for keeping them all together, but I don’t think this success belongs strictly to her.

We're only losing 3 seniors as of right now.

Jackson- 6'3" and Hipp 6'2" will be back as of now.

Gartner, Ruffridge, and Calip haven't said publicly, one way or the other.

All of the BYU WBB seniors will return for the 2021-22 season, using the extra year of eligibility; in addition to Paisley Harding, that includes Maria Albiero, Tegan Graham, and Sara Hamson

Big win for Vic. Sweet 16 in his first season. Will be nice battle of Texas’ defense vs Maryland’s offense in the S16.

Vic is a great coach who did well with a Texas roster that had a lot of significant gaps. Having said that, he is about to witness a straight up mugging this weekend. If karma is truly a b1tch, then Chloe Bibby will have a career game.

It counts toward their two-year mission. ;)

(No disrespect intended. They're a tough bunch and gave Arizona all it could handle).

I’d like to see a UT vs MSU game on the schedule next year. I guarantee it would be good basketball and if they played their could probably put some butts in the seats.

That would be a good matchup. And, unless they decide to use the extra year option, most of Kellie's recruits would have already left, so it wouldn't be as awkward for her.

Edit: Well, as usual, I was wrong. Franklin, Bhinhar, Manning, and Wilson were all there two years ago, and it was already stated that Hipp will return. So even if some of the other seniors don't return, there would be five players from our staff's days there still on the roster.

I find her to be overly dramatic, but...20.4 ppg on 45% shooting, 7.3 rpg, and 3.6 apg are impressive numbers. Her scoring went down by 3 points, but her FG%, rebounding and assists all went up. Any coach would be more than happy with her output.
I still think Dungee should have won it.

MoState would be a very dangerous OOC opponent, I would imagine they would be favored next year on a neutral court if most of their seniors return.

Dang that team will be really really good again.

So do most MO State fans consider Mox to be a better coach than Kellie? They don't seem to be missing her, seeing how your coach got further than Kellie with a less talented roster...

Having kept up with Mo St fan comments, it's obvious that they are smart basketball observers and would readily dismiss the nonsensical trolling.

I'm sure many feel that their current coach is equal or superior to our coach for various reasons. But one of those reasons would not be that they drew #13 seed Wright State in the second round instead of #4 Arkansas...or #6Michigan, for that matter. They are capable of beating any of those three, of course, but they know they got a good draw. And they know that your only interest is in baiting "LV fans" (nice to see that you finally acknowledged that you are not in that number when the Lady Vols come marching in) and insulting Harper. Those who appreciate what Kellie did during her stint likely aren't any more pleased with your drivel than the fan base here.

Mo State fans remember that Kellie & staff took a team consisting mostly of sophomores and freshmen (most still there today) along with one senior and managed to beat both DePaul and Iowa State before losing a very close game to Stanford. That's almost unheard of in the women's game.

But none of that matters because that's not the nature of your game...is it, Mr. Jones?

Missouri State beat Maryland this year, so they can play. I think they have already proved that they are a good team.

True, but let's go back a couple of weeks and give them a multiple choice quiz:

Which opponent would you rather face in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament?

A. Michigan

B. Arkansas

C. Wright State

Any bets what the results of the survey would have been?

They also clobbered Missouri by a lot more than Tennessee did. Fans wanting to put them on the schedule should be careful what they wish for...
In fairness to Mizzou, they got better as the season went on. But yeah, Mo State proved all season that they could play.
