Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

No one in their right mind or with other options would attend school in Terra Haute Indiana

But if you're stuck in scenic Terra Haute, it's only about an hour and twenty minutes to Crawfordsville, home of General Lew Wallace, the author of Ben Hur,
The Busy Bee cafe, and a few other snoozeworthy places.

As cultural deserts go, Indiana is at least not in last place. Basketball is rumored to be the state religion, followed closely by Dan Quayle's esoteric spelling cult.

There are also some lovely covered bridges in the surrounding area. But if you like a lot of urban blight and the smell of a paper factory TH is your type of town.

This is the year we will begin to see what kind of recruiter you have in KJH. Justine looks like she is going to be an outstanding player. (personally I think she is a gem) But some here place too much faith in hoopgurlz. I imagine there would have been an uproar if UT recruited Natasha Mack in 16. After all, how much can and 84th rated player help?

It's not a matter of placing too much faith in Hoopgurlz. Every year there's a Hillmon or Mack or Gustaffson that ends up being an outstanding player even if they weren't scouted highly. And there's probably 50 girls that sandwiched them in the rankings that didn't exactly light it up. With the top 10-15 players, they generally have a fairly strong track record of living up to their recruitment hype. Personally, I think it's a better strategy to go for the players that are consensus top ranked players then to mine the lower half of the rankings for the slim chance that you are able to find the next Natasha Mack. As a UConn fan, I'm sure that you're thrilled to have gotten all of those top ten players next year, so I'm not sure exactly who you're trying to fool here.

First game today UConn vs Iowa. I think Clark and Bueckers are evenly matched after that Iowa probably has only one player that is talented as their starting five. Should be a good game Iowa can score if they have one a their top shooting games could be a close contest.

Well, as a UConn fan, you should obviously understand you are welcome to take your snarkiness somewhere else. JMO.
Go Hawkeyes!!!

@NeedOrange, what Lucy, in a display of Southern Hospitality, was saying, was just a gentle reminder that this is the Non-Lady Vols thread, so your comments were, at best, misplaced.

The reference to "UConn fan" was for NeedOrange, who is a UConn fan telling us we should be happy with Tennessee's 3-star recruits while his team is stockpiling top 10 talent. If that was directed at me, perhaps reading comprehension is in order. JMO.

And yes...Go Hawkeyes!

My apologies! You are correct. I did not notice your post was a response. If you read it as a stand alone it reads very differently.

Westbrook is exactly the player I wish Jordan Horston would be. Isn't it ironic?

Call me crazy, but I hold out hope that still could happen.

Love when the role players take over the spotlight from the pregame hyped storyline. Of course their "role players" would be our superstars.

Watching her just infuriates me more about how badly we wasted Rennia Davis. Inexcusable that we never got past the first weekend while she was here.
The waste that infuriates me is Jamie Nared, Mercedes Russell, Jordan Reynolds and on and on and on. Which is why I am so happy for Westbrook to survive and prosper. Despite the circumstances of the break up, I can never be mad at her. She benefited from exiting the toxic relationship that was robbing her career. Good for her, wish so many others had the same outcome.

As for Davis, I believe she gained something in staying, and growing through the experience of the awful years, that will be just as valuable to her in the long run. Plus she'll most likely have a really nice WNBA career.

Especially given how not just Westbrook, but Mimi Collins and Anastasia Hayes have made huge contributions to their team.

If these 4 played along with Davis, Tennessee would be playing for the final weekend.
