Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Can't imagine what ESPN's Bilas and Davis would say about Ole Miss' physical style of play... kudos to the refs in that game at Stanford to not cave in to all the pressure.
What? The refs caved massively, tried every way in the world to give the game to the blue blood. It was only close at the end bc of two terrible calls against Ole Miss, one of them on Taylor's fourth foul. Then that cringy flop by Brink. Only bc Haley Jones was so awful on the last possesions were they unable to find a way to bail out Stanford.

Then to top it off, did you see the Stanford guy refuse to let Yo's Dad on the floor? He was begging to go hug his girl. Followed by an ESPN "highlights" pkg which exclusively showed plays by Brink and Jones during the comeback. But despite all that OM represented! SEC strong, except for the increasingly hateable LSU.

SEC SEC SEC LOL......IM HELLA PROUD OF OLE MISS...BUT I GOTTA SAY THIS TLK ABOUT GETTING UP IN YO GRILL DEFENDING NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION WAS ALL THEY KNEW WAS YOU WASNT GOIN TO SCORE...BY FAR THE DEFENSE I HVE SEEN IN AWHILE

Yeah, that was heartbreaking, but that floor staffer had probably been given strict orders all week to restrict access to the floor area.
I'm sure he was but Moon was clearly telling him who he was and pointing at Yo. I would hope if it were a TBA staffer he would have helped the harmless 77 yr old down to the floor for that hug. I'm sure the hug happened later tho, and that's what's important.

In a perfect world someone of his stature would have been pointed out to event staff prior to tipoff so that if any exceptions to the rules were requested, they'd make good decisions. Obviously they didn't go to those lengths, but I have to wonder if that is more an NCAA problem than a Stanford problem since NCAA runs these post-season events.

Also, just because someone says they are so-and-so doesn't mean they are. lol

I know it didn't happen, but IF Georgia & Miss State had pulled off their upset wins, & assuming the lady vols win their game tomorrow, the SEC would have had 4 teams make the sweet 16. Ole Miss is hanging tough vs Stanford right now. A victory by them would make 5 teams. I believe 7 teams made the NCAA tournament.

Actually, a Tennessee win tomorrow will put 4 SEC teams in Sweet Sixteen. Upsets by GA and MS would have put six of seven SEC teams in 3rd round.

Regardless of what mocking comments have been made about "moral victories," the SEC has been representing quite well so far.

I have an extremely close friend who works security at many sporting events and concerts at some of East Tennessee's biggest venues, and that person assures me that security protocols are expected to be followed to the letter (the exception being a home football win over Bama).

Congrats to Ole Miss and McPhee-McCuin. I feel that she should have gone into the stands to get her hug or maybe should have prearranged something with the venue officials to get dad access to the floor.

I've heard some funny tales about former star athletes and spouses (along with other celebs) who have expected special treatment and been vocally unhappy when they had to follow the rules. I also learned that you don't make eye contact with Elton as he rides by in his Rascal and that Paul met the security crew to thank them and shook my friend's hand.

Honestly? I'm glad security is tight for these events because, believe it/like it or not, we are still in a health situation that makes it important to make extra effort to protect players and staff from all the various viruses going around these days. Obviously protocols have relaxed to nearly nothing these days in comparision to a couple of years ago, but I am 100% behind every effort to try to insulate these kids as best we can while they're competing in the tournament they most desperately want to be at their peak physical condition to perform in.

The intensity was so high in every single game today. Felt like a S16/E8 environment. Making it to the S16 feels like a bigger deal this year for the top 4 seeds. Every team today had to fight - even those that eventually pulled away and won big.

Whew! I hope we’re ready tomorrow!

old miss won but brink being sick help alot to. old miss would get a game ref like that vs south caroline or unconn refs top teams to get star treatment. if brink would played for one those teams she shot more foul shots all those hand checks where brink was being move would been fouls. the refs let play which help old miss who likes play sec ball. not a fan of wrestling for space by big girls. before ball gets there.

Idk Brink played well and did what she would normally do in production. She had 20 pts, 13 boards and 7 blocks.

Stanford ran into the same issue they have had all season, not efficient enough and couldn’t find a third scorer. Jump just can’t create her own shot well enough.

Jones and Brink led them as usual but were 12-32 combined for 46. They needed to be closer to 50% from the floor for Stanford to win.

Really aggressive and consistent defense by Ole Miss, gritty team that plays with a lot of passion. So good for our league to have teams playing like that. Should open some eyes about the talent of the players and the coaching happening in the SEC.

Last 5 seasons the SEC schools have really invested in WBB top to bottom great coaching. MSST and UGA did so with first season coaches.

Bill …. I could care less who ranks the teams as we played all year and no ranking ! But the tournament folks said we were a top 16 team ?

The analysis of the SEC middles played tough against the so called HIGHER RANKED IOWA AND NOTRE DAME TEAMS …:: speaks volumes wether you want to agree or just want to find something to argue about ? Just in case you do ? ….. your argument will be with yourself! I won’t respond!
ok good

i watch brink play some this year and before this year she could not practice for a week sick. she miss layups she would hit. she ran slower than normal look sick in face. my brother watch game with me said they should not let her play he said shelook sick. . old miss won but their six man was whatever sickness got brink. worst i saw her played old miss kept hands on her and it run the gas out of her tank. far as points goes i look at fg% @VolBall09 old miss beat team on the floor thats all they can do. just my take on brink who i watch play ten or more games she was not no where near 100% not old miss problems just the way i see it.

Really like Ole Miss chances against Iowa. Looking forward to that matchup. Ole Miss has the defense and athleticism to contain Clark. It will be defense like Iowa has not seen this season. Really they need to hold her to about 20 and they should win. Easier said than done.

Ole Miss matches up well with Czinano in the paint. Igbokwe is a great matchup for her off the bench and Singleton holds her own in the paint.

Do not think Iowa matches up well with Baker or Scott at all, I expect both of them to have a big game. If they can continue to get some offense off the bench from Collins or Thompson they should be in it.

Ole Miss needs to hold them to 70 or fewer to win IMO. Otherwise they can’t manufacture enough points unless Baker goes completely off.

I guess all the posters that kept talking about how weak the SEC was this season can shut up now as the SEC has proved it on the court. The NET had the SEC ranked as the third best conference which turned out to be more than true. Three teams in the sweet sixteen already and two very close games on Iowa and Norte Dame's home court yesterday,

Iowa won't be playing at home and that will be a huge difference.

Agree about the impressive coaching jobs in the SEC. Teams improved, alot. Really glad we played Georgia and Ole Miss early. Even Texas A&M held it together and put on a good little SEC tourney run.

I watched the LSU and Ole Miss games with people who don't watch regularly (I know, but you don't get to choose family). All stayed up til the very end of the Ole Miss game and the consensus impression was they all sports hate LSU and love Ole Miss. Were so impressed w Ole Miss' mental toughness, team play, and classy on court demenor.

Can't wait for the next round, hope we're in it!

Someone is going to have to explain it to me how Haley Jones is an AA but RK and Jordy are not!!
