Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I keep seeing people post about the great defensive effort against Arkansas and I just don't understand it. What I saw was a team getting wide open looks but they couldn't hit a bull in the arse with a banjo. They rarely sent someone in to rebound even on free throws. It was a truly pathetic effort on Arkansas's part. We got blown by a lot, but we had Key there and she scared the crap out of them. That's why I posted during the game that "just because a team is not scoring doesn't necessarily mean the other team is playing good defense". I guess we just see things differently.

That’s what I saw when I watched live. When I re-watched our defense was better than I originally thought. We did rotate much better/faster than we have been. We got our hands on a lot of passes, especially the skip pass they love to throw to the corner. Sarah deflected 4-5 of those and Tess another few. Took a lot of shots away from Spencer and Daniels who can both get really hot.

They couldn’t get any good looks in their offense so they started taking quick shots very early in the shot clock. Poffenbarger picking up 3 early meant we killed them on the glass. She’s really the only player they have who will rebound aggressively. Dauda should be pulling in more boards than she does, super player, but she isn’t getting the post development she needs at Arkansas.

I agree. While Arkansas helped Tennessee's cause quite a bit by not making open shots, I thought th overall defensive intensity got to the Razorbacks. There was even one sequence where Daniels was driving the baseline and turned and had no one under the basket, but still seemed disoriented. Tennessee should get credit by how much they disrupted Arkansas and took away their first couple of options that even when they did get open, they bricked shots. I guess I can call it a moral victory.

I have been a UConn fan forever, and to me DeBerry is the biggest disappointment in the history of Genos tenure. With all the injuries the last 3 years, Amari has had many chances to step up and show that she belongs in the program. She failed every time, and I think Geno has finally given up on her. Being the tallest player on the team sure doesn't mean anything if they don't have the drive to win or play with passion. We are truly disappointed. She is a great teammate and supports the rest of the team, but we don't need 6'5" cheerleaders.
I could not agree more. She’s had so many chances to shine and become a major component but she always looks lost out there. I don’t get it. I don’t really follow HS recruitment so I don’t know exactly how well she played then, but apparently she played well enough to be highly ranked. She just couldn’t make the leap, for whatever reason. But it’s a damn shame. Having a strong big could have done wonders for us.

So why do you think that Geno hasn’t just sent her on her way if it’s a work ethic issue and not a skills deficiency?

This one starts momentarily, expecting a great game…

Pollsters really overlooked NC State at the start of the season. They look fantastic. And it's not like they are scrubs. Brooks, Rivers, Hayes, Collins and Baldwin were all HS AA's.

12-2 Wolfpack lead with 6 min to go in the half.

Florida up 19-9 on Ole Miss after 1Q.

Ole Miss losing is good for us so let’s go Gators!
It's actually not. Only helps if Tennessee can win some more games, because the Gators have the potential to start climbing up the SEC standings. If they beat Ole Miss, they have a good chance of ending the regular season on an 8 game winning streak (@bama and vs. Auburn would be the remaining challenges, and I like the way FL has been playing). They could easily make their way into the bubble.

South Carolina, Stanford, Ohio State, and Colorado are the 1 seeds in the committee's first reveal. LSU down as a 4 seed.

Said they really looked at strength of non-conference schedules, so that could be good news for us.
Oregon State came out like gangbusters in the last month or so. They have been impressive.

Thanks for telling me I had no idea. Looks like Ole Miss may pull it out.

Florida and Ole Miss going to OT on a Marquisha Davis jumper with 1 on the clock, Gators screwed up by not fouling while Davis was making her move since they had fouls to give. Probably afraid that the same refs from Louisville-Syracuse were on the court.

Incredible night for Clark. 49pts* 13 ast, 5 reb, broke the Iowa single game scoring record and NCAA all-time scoring record in the same night.

What impressed me most is her efficiency at her volume. 16-31 and 9-18 from 3. She’s a complete animal. Michigan tried everything they could and had no answers.

*I shorted her 1 pt initially lol

She is one of a kind.

The game went exactly as I predicted early in this thread. Close....not a blow out....with Tennessee having a good game but the bench points won the game. What did surprise me is the crowd size. I would have expected a sellout and there were only 11,000 there. No injuries so the hard-fought battle had no casualties. Good luck the rest of the way.
