Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Are both Kitley and Amoore gone after this season? If so Vtech will fall off the map.
As I mentioned in my last post of a couple-three weeks ago, I've seen them several games this season; so, FWIW:
You're right that it depends, first, on Amoore; and there's the ever-curious portal. But they won't be running on empty. They did, after all, win a recent recruiting battle, over us and several others, for a post player of high promise - six-six/six-seven Clara Silva. She and sophomore-to-be, 6'5" Clara Strack could combine to be a respectable, if not outstanding post duo. Matilda Ekh, the Swede from Michigan State actually starts. This season's freshman class, which of course, includes Strack, plus Carys Baker, the sharpshooter who could barely hit the backboard against Virginia, Carleigh Wenzel (redshirt) and others, is promising. So, a good-to-very good-looking roster for 24-25.

However, the Virginia game demonstrated Elizabeth Kitley's importance. Hopefully her 3rd quarter knee injury is more bruise than tear, and she can move forward with the tournament and her professional career. However, Coach Brooks' postgame tears suggest otherwise. *But now I am speculating!*

All that said, with Amoore at the lead; with Wenzel, Strack, Ekh, the two Claras, et al ...I certainly don't see a falling off of the map. But, without Amoore? Well, her 39 against Virginia suggest a much different scenario.

Prayers for Elizabeth Kitley.

Thanks for all that detailed info😉

Injury bug hit yesterday. Players that left games with apparent knee injuries included both Kitley of VT and Holmes of Indiana.
OMG, not again. Were the injuries because of contact with another player or a non-contact injury. If it was non-contact then I would worry. Usually contact may result in bruised muscles or banging knees which is usually painful but not serious. Hoping for the best because so many players and teams are having their dreams shattered because of all these injuries. Womens basketball is becoming dangerous.

When Kitley came back to the bench she had a huge bruise on her knee so that is actually good news. But Kenny was tearful in the postgame, lol, maybe just about the unexpected loss and not bad news for EK.

Not sure about Holmes.

I’m surprised (or perhaps just unaware) that there isn’t more research being done to understand why we are seeing such a rash of injuries, particularly ACL tears. We’re seeing it in soccer too, sometimes seeing a second tear shortly after the first. Idk if it is because players are stronger and faster now, they’re less likely to play a second sport so they aren’t as balanced, or if the year round schedules some keep up is too much, or yes to all of the above. It’s very concerning!

Holmes was walking around, so that's promising for her. But then Loree Moore also hit a game-turning 3 pointer vs. Duke with a torn ACL, so you never know.

Hopefully both Holmes and Kitley are ok. It would really be a terrible way for such great college careers to end.

I think that it's been said that it's due to anatomy differences for men vs. women, which is why women have a higher rate of ACL tears than men in basketball. ACL tears are common in soccer for men, so I would imagine that it's even worse for women.
