The only other team to play South Carolina tough other than Tennessee was North Carolina. Second round matchup may be interesting for them.Iowa State got a tough draw. A Maryland team who seems to have clicked suddenly in the first round and then a date with Stanford on their home floor if they win that one.
Surprising they gave us the edge over Iowa State after they made the finals of their tournament and had a strong finish.
Really a good draw for us, one seed different was a much, much tougher draw in this bracket.
The Hailey Van Lith matchup against her old team is fun, too.I’m keeping an eye on a potential LSU-Louisville 2nd round matchup. I’m not a huge Walz fan, but he always has his teams ready for the big dance.
LSU will only play five players in the 1st round. If Poa isn’t back, they could go out early.
What I've learned this year it has really come down to matchups with ranked teams losing almost daily to unranked teams. That North Carolina game was chippy like the LSU game. It should be interesting...True but that was early Dec this one will be a CLA which is tough place to win at. Also UNC has lost 7 of the last 11 games

How Louisville guarded Griner that game caused immediate changes in the rules. That game was ruthless. When those two coaches meet it can get interesting. That Baylor/Louisville game with Shimmel and Griner is a classic. I still go back and watch it now and then. Antonita Slaughter was unconscious from 3. Had the game of her life.
That was the original Kim jacket toss I think.

Griffith may be forced to eat her words. Though, I don't think that Vanderbilt is noticeably better than Columbia. I rate the game a tossup. When you cry you get in.
Megan Griffith, the coach of Columbia women's basketball, had some choice words for the SEC after losing in the Ivy League tournament final. Now, she's matched up against Vanderbilt in the First Four of the NCAA tournament.
"The NCAA talks about wanting to grow the game and we just consistently put SEC teams in that are 15-14," Griffith said.
The Commodores were a bit better than 15-14 — they finished 22-9 to receive their first bid in 10 years. They also beat Columbia (23-6) on the road in the 2022-23 regular season, when the Lions were one of the first teams left out of the NCAA tournament.

Most of all, I am glad that Abbey Hsu gets to play in the NCAA Tournament. She really is a fabulous player with 2000 points over a four year career. Hsu has pro-level talent even if she doesn't end up catching on with a team in the W.
Shoni driving in on Griner and making that circus trick shot and then staring down Griner is an image burned into my mind. Everyone thought Baylor was going to get the easy repeat title but L'Ville said not so fast. I got to meet Jeff a few years later and mentioned to him it was one of my favorite WBB games of all time. When those two coaches meet it can get interesting.
