Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I'll say.
Tell me, what's the difference between the
"Assistant athletic director for women's basketball operations" and the "Assistant director for women's basketball operations" ?
(Please don't say "athletic" !!)

Assistant athletic director for women's basketball operations reports to the Athletic Director and works out of the AD office while the Assistant director(s) for women's basketball operations report tp the director of women's basketball operations in Kim's office. The AD office is more concerned with higher level budgeting, fund raising, SEC issues and other intercollegiate responsibilities. The director of operations staff is more concerned with equipment, supplies, tickets, special events, travel logistics, special guests and recruits, maintenance and keeping Kim happy.

Thank you

Somebody probably took Staley aside and reminded her what a terrific recruiting tool her being the Senior National Team's coach is.

Exactly why it should not be a collegiate coach.

It should especially not be the same coach for multiple Olympic cycles. Should be someone different each time to avoid people using it as a recruiting tool.

Not trash talking her at all. But I firmly believe the Olympic coach should change every cycle. Just as I believe the players should rotate out more quickly. No good reason to have people playing that long.

Same here. I am definitely not trash talking Dawn because I happen to think highly of her and the outstanding job she continues to do at South Carolina. That doesn't negate the fact that Dawn having sustained international exposure as the leader of the world's best women's basketball team is something that impresses high school recruits and their families. Of course it does. And I don't blame any college coach for accepting the position if offered. But it's a position that should never have been given to any active college coach, for reasons the Auriemma years made blatantly obvious.

The message here is clear. If any high school payer has hopes of playing for the U.S. Olympic team, she should commit to South Carolina or UConn. If she is foolish enough to go anywhere else, she will have almost no chance of making the team.

I think the same could be said about any player that wants a chance at a NC.

I don't know if it is a benefit or not. I do know that UConn recruiting went down while Geno was the national coach. It takes time away from recruiting. Dawn was national coach during 20 and 21 and is still waiting for the announcement of her first 22 recruit. Is there a connection. Maybe. She will get players but if it is only the local girls then time away with the national team may have hurt. The national coach who has the greatest advantage is the U17 national coach. They get to spend weeks with the top 15 to 20 freshman and sophomores. I believe that job usually goes to a mid major head coach. And recruiting is about relationships.

Dawn has had very good recruiting classes prior to her ever being the National team coach. She also develops her players, look no further than Harris and Harrigan who were ranked 9th and 12th at their positions coming out of high school and ended up two of the best at their positions by their senior year. All this talk about “she gets the talent because she’s the coach”, or “her girls know if they go to SC they will automatically be playing in the Olympics” is false! It just sounds like sour grapes. If she steps down but continue to land good classes and win what will the next complaint be? Teams executing and producing on the court is the biggest tool in recruiting period.

That doesn't mean a college coach should be coaching National team.
