VTech as you know barely beat UT who as you know again is 7 and 6. And wasn't that Key last game or close to? Did RJ even play(I honestly don't know that answer) UT kept it close at Stanford and lost by 3 to Vtech. That shows me UT is a top 15 squad. What other teams outside the top 15 could do the same....
I think that is a fair analysis. Despite a 7-6 record, If you look at the strength of the schedule, I would put them somewhere in the 15-20 ranking. They've lost to 5 teams currently ranked in the top 10 !! and the other ranked #23.
The upcoming conference games
that will decide their season are the unranked, decent teams in the SEC.
Florida (home & road)
Alabama (home)
Mississippi St (home & road)
Georgia (home)
Missouri (road)
Auburn (home)
Ole Miss (home)
They have very little margin of error in these games.
There are still 4 games left with currently ranked teams that could do a lot to improve their profile, if they could win a couple.
UConn at home and LSU on the road, come back to back, at the end of January. Arkansas on the road and South Carolina at home in February.
18 games left of which 16 are conference games. If they split the 2 non conference games and go 12-4 in conference, that gives them a 20 win season (20-11).
12-4 would probably be good for 3rd place in the SEC regular season standings. SEC tournament play is an x factor.
It could either improve their NCAA chances or be a detriment to it.
The question is, is a 20-11 record and a 3rd or 4th place finish in the SEC T enough for an NCAA invitation ? Given the SOS, I think yes. There will be about 8 teams from the SEC playing in the NCAAT. The scenario above will certainly put them among those 8.
