Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Hasn't she been recruiting elite since she got there basically ? She had the number 2 class in 21' (mcpherson has been injured and teonni is now playing). 22' she got Paulina Paris who was a top 30 kid and a jordan brand all american. She had a few all conference players transfers to her. So she hasn't really been hurting for talent. But she probably could use more quality depth. We took a beating with our schedule but the one thing we can say is we are/have developed some depth.
She seems to have a lot of players that do the same thing as far as their position on the basketball team. A lot of perimeter players. Next year should tell more about her as looks like she finally got that elite big which every team has to have to get very far.

Oregon just got blasted as well. They don’t have the players this year they need at this level either. NC has some ballers, just not enough size or athleticism this year. Courtney can only do so much with that group. She is recruiting elite now so I suspect their fortunes change in the next couple of years.

I mean, there are few undefeated teams left and just about everyone has warts on their resume by now. Still, North Carolina's win over Oregon remains more impressive than anything Tennessee has done. If you want to claim the Tar Heels can't compete with good teams, well...

Again, her systems have never been set up around an elite big. The 6'4" young lady that got drafted was tall but more of a stretch 4 when she was at Princeton.

My point being those same players that do a lot of the same things are the players that fit her princeton system. This year should be telling as well as she has elite perimeter players that fit the system she has been coaching for years. They haven't done bad this year just not a top 10 (right now) team and i think we all knew that.

Edited: i do wanna add her team plays with heart and you can see they could be a problem in the ACC which would put them on a national stage.

I would bet a pretty penny UNC wouldn't be up at Stanford after 3Q. Also UT and UNC have 1 common opponent. Would you like to share with us Darth how UNC fared? 87-63🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well, as disappointing as the OOC was for us. I'm looking forward to conference play, SEC and all the other conferences.

Opening slate of SEC games

Dec 29:
Miss St @ Vanderbilt
Tennessee @ Florida
A&M @ #1 SC
Auburn @ Ole Miss
#10 LSU @ #17 Arkansas
Georgia @ Alabama
Kentucky @ Missouri

Obviously the biggest opening game will be Arkansas/LSU game on ESPN2.

Darth, I guess I should have clarified my statement on UNC this year, having watched them 4-5 times now I was making the observation that I don’t think they have the size or athleticism to make any kind of a deep run this year. I could be wrong, they have fight as evidenced by being behind by 15-20 points several times and fighting back somewhat, but that team needs some post players badly. And their defense is not much above a C grade so far, due to their lack of bigs and athleticism defensively IMO.

I'll say Miss St over Vandy, I hope win and should but know how we can be so bad sometimes against teams we should beat, Sc over Texas A&m by 50, Ole Miss over Auburn although this one is either way, Hopefully Arkansas over LSU another game that is close, Alabama over Georgia, Missouri over Kentucky,.

My question is will LSU defend the 3 this year against Arkansas? Last year their defense was toasted badly as the Razorbacks were 13-25 from 3 and all were wide open. Although their bigs are more mobile this year which may benefit them. I remember Aifuwa and Newby getting taking to the shed on the defensive end. Last years team was pretty bad defensively though. Still have zero clue about this group as they haven't played anyone.

Can Arkansas keep Reese in control? They couldn't stop Grace Van Slooten from Oregon all game, scoring 26 points no matter who they put on her and with double teams. But Van Slooten has been massive all year and even put up nearly 30 points on Ohio St.

My top 2 freshmen so far this year speaking of have to be Latson and Van Slooten. Rice honorable mention too.

Naw, the new low was hit when people were taking personal digs at our players... Never gonna let that one be confused with anything other than what that was.

Accurate statement, but Key was not the first time. Hornbuckle had a moment in time long before we got here.

But i will say this if Arkansas can stay even on the boards offensive and defensive they have a good shot at winning.
I don't think they will keep pace with LSU inside but it comes down to how many 3's they can make and being somewhat efficient.

They made 13 threes last year against LSU although they don't have Ramirez anymore and Poff (who is good) isn't nearly as potent offensively but she brings much better rebounding. Much different Arkansas team although they definitely have more people who can rebound better this year.

FT shooting could come into play. Both teams have no been good with hitting them this year.

Also to note 6-5 starter Jersey Wolfenbarger missed the last two game Oregon and USF with some kind of illness. Let`s see if she is a go against LSU because they need her in the lineup.

No. Arkansas wins
Would be great if true, I doubt anyone would bet hard earned money on it though. Mulkey has been to a few rodeos before, she likely won’t be out coached, which is why I believe LSU wins this game.

I reallllllllly like Samara Spencer for Arkansas! I feel like she in some way will win this game for the razorbacks. I think they’ve been tested enough to this point and they will have Wolfenbarger back in the lineup.
