Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I can't see the Missouri coach keeping her job much longer

The fans love her. The players love her. The Admin loves her. So unless you take over the program in Columbia I doubt that she has much to worry about. (And I doubt that Missouri would be willing or able to hire a better coach.)

Mizzou doesn't match up in talent with the top seven or eight teams in the SEC. But they do usually manage an upset or two (just missed one recently you might remember). The Mizzou players rarely have WNBA aspirations (they don't get too many Sophie Cunninghams) and the fans who have never had a whiff of championships have much lower expectations than the Lady Vols fans, many of whom still remember the glory years and will be satisfied with nothing less.

Pingeton may not be the best WBB coach in the SEC -- too much competition for that spot -- but she is a good coach who usually has her team ready to play, a decent game plan in place, and her players never quit or turn on each other.
It's hard to compare coaches and I may be biased, but I'd give her the edge over Harper.

Good grief. Juhaz just lterall plowed over a Nova defender and put her on the ground and then dribbled in for an uncontested layup right in front of the ref. Juhaz even paused for a second as though expecting a whistle before shrugging and taking the free points.
UConn doesn't play dirty, they play hard. How do you think Baylor and South Carolina got to where they are today. If you want to compete for a NC you have to play like your competition, and you can't deny that if the LVs played like that you would be thrilled. You will find out Monday what it takes to win now-a-days. This isn't a pansy sport anymore, and we found that out the last few years.

I wasn't blaming Juhaz. She looked surprised at not getting called for the charge. It was the ref staring and munching his popcorn who was the culprit. Dorka seems like a pretty congenial sort.

I did think Muhl overdid the dramatics in protesting her foul on Olsen (which the replay confirmed). Yeah, she's "fiery," but that was a bit over the top...like her coach. And Angel Reese.

Anyway...admittedly through biased eyes...there seemed to be a lot of grabbing and holding allowed by the home team. Some questionable tie-ups both ways, but that's normal. Seemed that there were enough home calls in a tight game that went to the wire to allow conn to escape. But yes, I'd like to see Tennessee playing more like both teams in your game today.

On a conn note, i heard two tidbits about Auriemma from an informed source (who was exactly on the money about one of our player's suspension last year before the details were revealed and who confirmed that Horston would play last Thursday. Never told me anything that hasn't checked out as true later).

The first was that Auriemma missed a step and did a face plant...I think getting off a bus (?).

The second (which ties into the first) comes from the source's personal, up-close, courtside observation at the game. They said Auriemma looked terrible...kept his hands in his pockets and kind of shuffled around like an ailing, older person. I just got a few quick comments and haven't had time to get all the details yet, but it didn't sound good at all.

The alarming thing...and the tips came from someone who has thoroughly despised the man's character since the mid-90's...is that the source said they actually started feeling a little sorry for him. That's pretty much the last thing I would have expected to hear from a really vocal, intense critic of Auriemma.

Given his absence on the bench this season, have the home fans expressed any alarm about any serious health issues? I know CPS's diagnosis came as a shock, yet it also seemed to confirm the impression that her demeanor had changed during the year or so leading up to the announcement.

Listening to interviews from his office, he doesn't seem to have changed much. But warching him move around on the sidelines, there seems to be a distinct difference this year, whereas I actually thought he looked healthier during the last year or so than in previous years.

Just basing this on observation of a lot of older people, including myself.

I know Jersey Wolfenbarger was a really high recruit for Arkansas. She isn’t even starting this year, and plays little minutes. I can see her transferring next year.

We all think that he doesn't look good, and I think all the stress of trying to win games with so few players has taken a toll on him. Its funny, when the Paige class came in it seemed like he was really starting to enjoy coaching again, he seemed to lighten up with the players. Paige, Azzi, Nika are all fun-loving, and they weren't afraid to goof on him whenever they could. Obviously when you are as talented as Paige you can get away with things, although he always would crack on her in interviews. As much as he may get on the players, he really loves them and feels for all the injuries that thay have endured. He has been a different guy this year, and we just hope he can survive this season without any major problems.
