Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

OK has the tieb w us. So even if we win out and end w 6 losses, they'd have to lose both remaining games and have 7 losses to finish behind us. They'd have to lose to both Bama and FLA. Pretty sure they clinch 4th by beating FLA Thurs no matter what happens in KY.
Florida is very capable of beating OK, especially on their home court and that is their senior day so they may play a little more inspired. Florida currently has 3 all Americans and can score with them and they have size in the post. They've been playing much better and are due a Q-1 win. Currently 0-10 against Q-1. Then we need to begrudgingly root for Alabama to win at Oklahoma which is very possible too. We win out, that 4 seed in the SEC tournament is still possible. Just need a little help from our friends....

Kansas State just lost by 17 to Baylor at home.

In the last committee reveal, KS checked in at 12 (the last 3 seed). They have since lost two games. Ohio State lost to unranked Indiana.

If we win Thursday, I def think we're moving up to a 3 seed. Other teams are doing us a solid. We have to take advantage.
Our resume should have us at a 3 seed now. These people drive ratings underseeding the Lady vols every year cause they know it makes our very large, established fan base heads spin. I'm at the point now of believing Charlie Cremes bracketology always undervalues the Lady vols seeding too, so that he can rack up the clicks. Same thing different year.

And for that reason I haven’t given him a click in about 5 years.

Think he had us at an eight last season and we ended up a six. We know we were the last four seed going into the last couple of games which we won. That should've moved us up at least to the top of the four seeds. Kentucky game looms large it is the defining game to get to a three seed. I don't think it knocks us out of a four seed though we will need to win at least a game or two in the SEC Tourney.

folks, board member wishes unfortunately are just that. one game at a time is what is important. and following the next two games starts the win to go forward.

and for those of you who wonder about the fate of North Carolina Central, winless when they played the LVs. They are 8-5 since. I'm sure their improvement will "significantly" impact the ratings of all the top 20 teams who they scheduled. More trivia, they are located near Duke, wonder if they ever scrimaged?

That Taurasi story was good. One thing that stuck out to me was how Diana's recruitment to CT was way different to how Pat ran things. Young people are gonna be young people, but I'm 100% certain Pat Summitt wouldn't have given an encouraging *wink wink* to her players for them to sneak an underage high school visiting recruit out to a bar to show her a good time.

Like I said, kids will be kids and college-aged people want to have fun and do stuff like go out to bars. But Auriemma was not a kid, and he knew Diana was underage.

Ancient history now.

Taurasi was a force who had unmatched success on the basketball court, no doubt about it.

Not surprised to hear DT is retiring. She has accomplished everything and more.

I'll just leave this fond (to some ;)) 2002 memory here.

Driving to the basket as top-ranked Connecticut was putting the finishing touches on a rout of No. 2 Tennessee today, Diana Taurasi made a layup and was fouled. She went over to the basket support, which was covered in Tennessee orange, and punched it with her left hand. ''I just wanted to hit something orange,'' she said after the Huskies defeated Tennessee, 86-72, before 24,611 fans at Thompson-Boling Arena. It was the largest crowd to see a women's college basketball game, surpassing the24,597 who watched these teams play here in 1998. [article]

I have always loved some good old-fashioned sports hate when it comes to rivalries. I was a young teenager in CT watching this and thinking it was the absolute coolest thing ever.

I respect coaches so much when they realize they just don't have what it takes and step down on their own accord. It's one thing to have an ego and personal pride -- I believe that this is what drives the best coaches to build up winning programs. But it should never get in the way of the school/organization and players.

IF she initiated this. Could've been nudged out the door and "allowed" to do it this way.

There were probably metrics out in place before the season started. Either so many wins or you’re out. Likely at a point where it’s clear she would be let go. This is the classy way to do it.
