Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Weird bc Mizz is finally competitve this year. Not winning but much more competitive.

I just hope Kellie Harper doesn't get that job as I think it would be a disaster. I doubt Mizz is willing to put up much in the way of resources or NIL and we already know recruiting is her weakness. A stint in the SEC basement would only seal her reputation as unable to get it done on the big stage. Please concentrate on broadcasting, where she's actually getting better

If she ever returns to coaching it had better be at a mid-major level. That is her speed. Tried and true.

Could not agree more. She's doing a great job in my opinion with her broadcasting. If she was going to return to coaching, I would not do it in the SEC even if media would salivate over the storylines.

I would be surprised if Kellie and Jon moved outside of Tennessee ever again. I got such a strong sense of relief from her when she finally got to come home to her beloved Tennessee where all her people are. I honestly would be shocked if she left it again, not knowing if she'd ever get to come back or not. The draw of living near mom'n'em when a Southern girl reaches a certain age as her parents and siblings are aging, too, is powerful.

If she keeps improving her broadcasting game, I suspect she'll just stick with that. I can't see her needing to make tons of money to be happy. Jon can coach high school or local college. Or whatever interests him.

I could be totally wrong, but I would be surprised if she left "home" again.

She already had what, to her, was the ultimate coaching job. Imagine how difficult it would be to have to go back to driving a used Sentra after having had the keys to a Lamborghini for years.

I guess my point is I imagine it would have to be a pretty sweet situation to get her back into coaching -- at least as a head coach. I could see her being an assistant on the staff of a WNBA team named The Summitt, though.

Like I keep saying, I look for Mikayla Blakes to be called up to The Show after just one season in Connecticut's farm system. Yes, the optics will be bad for Shea Ralph, but it'll be a small price to pay to get where she really wants to be when Auriemma retires, anyway.
Just hope it is not Notre Dame as they seem to be getting a lot of NIL money from somewhere. Texas, LSU, and the California schools in Los Angeles seem to be doing it as well. I think we need 2 million possibly more to keep up in women's basketball. It seems quite standard that any player gets 50 thousand and for the elite you have to go way beyond that number. In the SEC I am looking for Texas and LSU to be the up and coming competition with SC in three or four years taking it down quite a bit unless they find a huge NIL source. Women's basketball in some places will probably continue to suffer like Alabama, Georgia, and Florida as they push it all to football. Tennessee is doing that as well just hoping someone will continue to let the women have enough to keep a great team.
I was surprised to hear that a softball player is our biggest women's earner. Followed by two basketball players not mentioned who they are.

I see where ST John's men's basketball just got a huge NIL contribution from a bliionaire company so we might see them take a leap forward even though they are already really good team this season.

It's not like Tennessee doesn't have alum with deep pockets. Getting them to stick their hand in the pocket is the problem...

I think fans could do a lot if the money was going to where they wanted it to go. Never like that it is for every sport as I want to win in basketball and softball on the womens side more than rowing, or golf. I heard that our AD got quite a lot of NIl money for womens basketball and that is a huge part of the reason we got a roster upgrade and a top two class of freshmen. Just have to keep it up as the sport is not going to make it back for you just have to want to win in those sports there is not a lot of revenue to be had.

Whatever KIm is making now is going way up and the Assistants will be getting more money also. Now with the players all collecting a salary it has to be fans and more so some boosters that 50 dollars to us is like 10000 to them. I wish we had the boosters that love women's basketball like some other schools seem to have.

Other names floating around...
Pierre from Candy
JUJu from USC to SC apparently
Audi Crooks from Iowa State
Ju Ju to SC would be quite a transfer. The way she likes to shoot hindered the powerful inside game they have at USC and still does when she goes off on one of her shooting sprees. That would be quite surprising if she leaves Los Angeles for Columbia.

Crooks will have to go somewhere like where she already is slow ball. Wouldn't be a player that we should be interested in as she does not fit anything we are trying to do. I bet Pierre might want to go back out West. Blakes would work great at Tennessee. If she portals the bidding will be enormous.
