North Hollywood A rare movie where a pro skater takes on the main role. And yes, it shows at times, despite Vince Vaughn playing the dad. Some of the dialogue and scenes are downright poor. But, overall it is a pretty good story. If you were ever into skating growing up, you will probably appreciate this.
I'd rate it a 4.775.
But what interests me beyond a pro skater starring in it is some of the bleedover to other things. Pharrell produced it (Odd Future connection)...it also has the kid from the Jonah Hill directed movie "Mid 90s" in it...the director (Mikey Alfred) is a part of Illegal Civilzation, a group also consisting of the main actor and the kid from Mid 90s...and Illegal Civilzation is loosely connected with Odd Future as they have produced some of Tyler the Creator's music videos as well...throughout you will see a character here or there wearing a GOLF shirt or a Tyler album cover on someone's wall. Just found all the connections quite interesting.
On a bit of a tangent, the same thing happened last week watching The Get Together, "Linklater style" party-comedy movie. Not surprisingly, it had a prior Linklater actor in the kid/man from Boyhood. More surprisingly, the main actor was Shakey Graves (the musician). Did not realize any of this until after we had watched it.
Anyone else ever watched a movie and later realized a bunch of connections to other things that interest you?
