Northwestern University study: Church makes you fat

This is funny. I grew up Mormon. The Mormon church has a word of wisdom which people are too strictly follow. I'm sure you all have heard of no coffee or alcohol, etc. But also it calls for everything in moderation. The whole point is to live a healthy lifestyle. It's funny to me that members of the Mormon faith can get up to 300+ lbs, with terrible eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle and not be judged for breaking the word of wisdom, but as soon as you take a sip of coffee you are in violation. I mean, I understand it. It's not like a church leader can say, "sir, you are too fat." but I think they could address this better and they don't.

It seems to me that all churches harp on vices without really focusing on gluttony which is a major problem in the US and A.

Church of the future=all fat azzes will have to do 25 push ups instead of hail mary's. Also, treadmills to be installed at church steps before entering.

I'm always chuckled at 300-400 pound pastors saying how sinful drinking is because the body is God's temple.

All I can remember from attending my grandmother's church as a child is: "And the Lord spake-Let there be tater-tot casserole."

Simple explanation: After church pot luck meals. Who can say no to all that fantastic food?

Had to type in the irony of extra large church doors at most places of worship. The clergy are known for their oversized clothing.

Man. There was nothing better than homecoming Sunday. Every lady in the church had to outdo the others and would bring a full course meal. Fried chicken, casseroles casseroles casseroles, and every chocolate, pecan and apple pie you could imagine.

Some temples are bigger I guess.

I know one that finally figured out being that big was just as bad or wise and lost about 150 pounds. I hadn't seen him in a long time and literally had no idea who he was.

Why is this in the politics forum?

Without trying to come off as wise guy religion and politics are the topics people agree to disagree on. I think the OP decided it was the best off topic forum to post in.

I don't know about this. Ever been to a Catholic service? There are more up-downs than at a week of football practice.

Or..... mark "no religion" on the next census.

None of the churches I went to as a kid had any potlucks that I can remember, just a lot of fatties.
