Always felt we made a mistake not securing Norvell, until Heupel did what he did last year. Maybe it was meant to be, so we could face those guys again as a symbol of both programs returning to prominence. :)

Think about this though, two mid major coaches who would have been solid in-state hires, crossing to each others’ states where they coached their first teams as HC only to return those programs to glory.

Good story.

Far better story than the emotional pablum delivered every game about our opponents' tragedies and parental drama.
An actual football story.

I miss the old days when Vin Scully, Howard Cossell, or Skip Carey (and all the other greats) would tell the story about a shooting or parents' travel miscues during a game. Those guys were always full of great and interesting stories. And that was the end of it!
The greats always spun a good yarn about what happened, and how it affected a player or team.
Then they carried on calling a game. They had distractions and conversations in the booth during the game, but never the same conversation piece constantly resurrected during a game.
It is simple laziness on the part of the commentators.
Lack of preparation and focus, and it looks/sounds unprofessional/amateurish.

I'd take Heup over Norvell, but you're definitely right in what you're saying.
Agreed. Looking back, what he did at Memphis with next to no support or assets was pretty amazing. He got them to places they had never been. Very innovative coach.

Nailed it!

Personally I'd love to see a few teams outside the SEC play some football. Pretty sick of all the blubbering about the SEC going to 25 or 30 teams. So good for them.
