28. Butch Jones Cincinnati

Jones cleaned house in Year 1, dealt with significant injuries and had some wondering about him after a three-win debut. Now look: 10 wins in 2011 from a team that probably shouldn't have reached that high. Next problem for UC: keeping Jones. He won at CMU, he's winning at Cincy. Another big season should lead to a big BCS job (hello, Tennessee).

From the same coaching rank list that had Dooley 99th, too. Pretty amazing imo.

I can't say I'm excited by this hire, and I probably won't be until I see this man win games at Tennessee. However, for the sake of looking for any reason not to be depressed, it's interesting to see how far Jones is ranked ahead of some of the other names we supposedly offered, or were at least mentioned in the search. Thanks for posting this list.

Yeah. Butch Jones #28 versus

#34 Golden
#37 Pelini
#38 Jimbo Fisher
#41 Art Briles
#44 Holgerson
#46 Mullen
#51 Strong
#53 Fedora
#68 Mora

And you have to figure that Jones' stock has risen with his 9 wins this year.

That's really cool... I'm still not letting go of the pitchfork (Hart), but BJ has my attention.

Good read! Feeling pretty lonely around here, but I think this guy is a good hire for our Vols. Dude has fire and passionate! Watched some YouTube on him earlier, and I really like his energy. Opposite of Dooley's arrogant demeanor. Behind this guy 100%. Im excited to see how this turnsI out. Thanks for posting

Best quote from that article:

An NFL scout says: “If you’re just looking at the surface, you see him winning with what Brian Kelly built. Don’t believe that garbage. He can coach. He was one of those guys a few years ago where you just knew big things were coming his way. He’s not done, either. Not by a longshot.”

I think there are alot more folks that are optimistic about CBJ than it feels like. Or at least willing to give him a chance. The anger/disappointment you are seeing is a result of the AD setting expectations so high in his initial comments about the search and now we're all scratching our heads on how this guy checks off against that criteria. On the surface CBJ is not a home run hire and he has no experience in the SEC. Both points can be proven irrelevant with success. However, generally, folks are stunned that we've hired a guy that many in the AD department have reportedly admitted didn't meet the expectations of the original criteria that was stated publicly. Don't get me wrong - I like CBJ's potential and I think he can be a great hire. But that doesn't change my disappointment in the AD's gross missteps in communication at the beginning of this process.

He definitely won the press conference.

This guy has football seeping out of his pores. Whereas Dooley....well, CDD had some interesting things to say about personal hygiene and D-Day.

That was weird, how they predicted it like that. I will point out, just for discussion's sake, that they have Chizik ahead of Jimbo on that list.

Great post! I'm behind this hire and can't wait to see Jones' staff.

I'll call it now that a CBJ team will have more wins than a dooley team. Easy call I know. :)
