Remember the constant battle last year on VolNation of Hire Phil for AD vs someone else?

Does anyone think that Phil as AD would have done it differently for this search? I think the general split today is not because of Butch, but because of how the situation was handled for the past 2 months.

Thoughts?

Bingo. At least in my case.

That is 100% true. I was all Gruden or for someone with more buzz, but everything could have been definitely better received if Hart had communicated better with the public. He is a horrible communicator. He gets an F in communication. He acts as if the public or fans don't matter. We as a whole may be viewed as the little people, but we're the people that buy the season tickets, pay for the apparel, follow our team on the road, follow our players throughout their career, and wear the Power T with pride. He shows the common fan no respect, and he is an arrogant person. It's obvious.

If he would have handled the hiring process with clarity and class, the fan base could have received Butch Jones with more open arms. Instead, he handled the process as if it was cloak and daggers, and delivered someone that everyone believes could have been hired with one phone call. As a result, he has an uphill PR battle to win the fan base over with wins, solid recruiting, public appearances, and overall character. I hope and think he will. He definitely handled the press conference with class, and as disappointed as I was with the hire, I will put my full support behind him.

Not to defend Hart, no one can do that the way he handled things. But I don't think people truly understand the difficulties the school Administrators and Faculty Senate have placed on UT Athletics and Football in general. It's possible the reason Hart was trying to get Dooley through this year without firing him was so he had more time to make changes so it would be easier for him to get a better coach in the future. I have to wonder if he didn't make some promises to CBJ with regard to these changes.

Honestly, I think all this all came down a year or maybe even 2 before Hart was really ready with these changes and ready to get a new coach.
