Not sold on Butch nor Dobbs

I hope that by reading what you've posted it won't lower my IQ any. Dobbs has started one freakin' game against a top 10 team and Jones hasn't even coached a full season against arguably the toughest schedule in the nation and you are calling for people to be fired.Where in the hell do you people come from?

Like many on here, after watching years of football one can usually spot the teams that lacked coaching discipline and talent at QB. Usually the signs are whiffed tackles, false starts, wide receivers running routes with thier arms wide open, and the QB throwing the ball to the defense.

When asked in his presser if it was frustrating having a solid scheme in place and just not having the talent to implement it, Butch took responsibility. He said that he and his coaches had do a better job, he didn't just put it off in the players.
If I had any doubts Butch, he just solidified every ounce of trust I have pit in him to rebuild this program. Butch respects people. Don't underestimate how powerful that is.

The problem with the recruiting argument is either they are not there any longer or they are having to change the way they play and overcome that idiot Derek Dooley's "coaching". I think given time CBJ will do well when his system is installed and the type of players needed to run that system are there, until then we are going to have to suffer through some tough times. If they can get to 6 wins and a bowl game then personally I'll consider this season a success.

I hope we can play Auburn tough. Vandy is not a given either. I agree 6 wins is needed bad. Otherwise the SC win is really burnt if we just go 5-7 again. I think we need a focused team in a bowl win also. One other request- while we wait on him to get players for "his system" can we at least try to play to the strengths we have? I cannot for the life of me understand why our Fresh QB broke records for most pass attempts on the road against a top 10 team while we spent the rest of the season running read option with Worley. I mentioned 3 weeks ago why not put Worley in a spread pass shotgun and let him do more of what he learned in his first two years...I got slammed on this board for that. Then Butch does it last night and loses 31-3 and i get reamed for questioning coaching...you've been fairly objective in your comments back so 'preciate that.

Does it really matter what you think? Sold or not. Really the fact you are drawing a conclusion based on less than a season for a coach & staff and after one game for a QB reveals you ignorance. Have another drink and think about it...maybe two.

Sorry didn't realize I was talking with an expert talent evaluator and head coach, my apologies. If you already know how Dobbs is going to be after one start on the road against a top ten team then you are the smartest person on this board. I know he hasn't played yet but perhaps you have some insight on Ferguson too? There is also a sophomore qb at one of the high schools here and if you could come by and give your take on him I'm sure the coaching staff would be quite pleased.

Don't know why they didn't run more read option I thought they would with Dobbs. 49ers have been doing the same thing with Kaepernick too, not using his strength in running and it's not working although it appears they may be going back to it. Jones and co. are going to have to run the ball against Auburn and keep that offensive off of the field or they'll get carved up.

Posted 10/1- Sorry I do not know how to forward the actual post. Read below and answer me this- Did last night not look like what I suggested a month ago, yet with a QB with experience not a freshman on the road?

Seems counter intuitive I know, but Worley actually learned to play in the Tyler Bray made offense. We have tall recievers (North/Croom), possession recievers (Dallas/Carter/Jo Smith) and slot buys (Pig). We have an oline born to pass protect.
Put Worley in shotgun where he can see the field and you'll see a different offense. Can run draws and quick screens with backs (Neal was himself a reciever soph year).
You guys thinking this line can line up in I formation and pound the rock or the ones who are nuts. I've not seen them do it yet. This team will have to pass to run.
Their lack of execution in the pass game thus far in running an unfamiliar scheme aka Clawfense. We saw how that went. Get ready for those same results.

Agreed. I think we overthought it and tried to play to Mizzou weakness (pass defense). Lack of the Oline protecting the pocket was perplexing. Maybe we are just a different team at home and will look better next week. I was so upset last night I actually quit drinking! Didnt want to ruin my Sunday too!

Yep, just what we need. More turnover in the staff. :banghead2:

I seen Vince Young do that, but his was against NFL level talent. If Dobb's has the same struggles next week, I hope they burn Ferguson's red shirt so they can see if he has any talent or not.
.

Are you kidding me, Vince Young & NFL has nothing to do with Dobbs. And Vince while going against NFL talent had NFL talent supporting cast.

You cannot expect a freshman QB to play above the level of everyone around them. What struggles did Dobbs have except a couple of miscues that is expected first start against one of the toughest SEC defenses? I do not believe we would have had much different result with Ferguson in there. Put Peterman in and it likely would have been worse. For the most part Dobbs had some good throws and made some good decisions with a couple of minor mistakes.

Burning another redshirt to experiment is not wise. If Dobbs is serviceable then let him finish the season and figure out who is best in spring and fall camps and go with the better one next season.

don't think it will be on Dobbs on any future games we lose. It will be based on getting our butts kicked on both sides of the line of scrimmage last night and not able to establish any sort of run game.

The kid was like 61% w/ 200+ yds and 40+ yds of rushing. Yes 2 INTs, but again that is inexperience. One he should have thrown away and the other a bad read.

Dobbs has some talent, but no touch on his deep throws and an inabillity to get it into the endzone.....I am just not seeing the it factor that people have talked about...Bray looked better against SC as a true freshman and you could immediately see his supreme talent and it factor....I'm just not seeing it with Dobbs. 3 points even as a true freshman and with wr drops ain't looking too promising...he resembles worely as a true freshman agsint SC...more so than a future stud....I am eager to see if Riley is any better...

As for Butch....the team has quit on him...oline has regressed ....defense is still awful...is.it really surprising considering what janckeck did at uga? That might as well been a Dooley team out there tonight...

It is fans like you that drive me crazy! 9 games into his 1st year as head coach, Butch Jones has made huge strides in all areas of this team! It's a minimum of 3 years to rebuild this program to a competitive position and you want to make judgment after 9 games! I AM FULL BUTCH! GBO! VFL!

Auburn's "overnight" success can fool non-football people. Malzahn recruited those players for his system. The Chizik tried to be a power team with spread players. It failed miserably. Enter Malzahn. Team full of "his" players running "his" system. And magically (seemingly) an 8-1 record and a top ten ranking. Funny how that works, huh?

That's the most intelligent post I have read in a while. Lets give CBJ enough time to recruit his own players before we blast him too much. I will have to say that our offensive play calling is going to have to improve ALOT no matter who is in the game.

 The ignorance just keeps spewing forth from you. You have no clue as to what you are talking about so just give it a rest.

You are a fool if you think that Haslam's primary concern isn't his multi-billion franchise and his multi-billion dollar business.

And Hart isn't a long-term guy for the Tennessee Athletic Department.

Disagree with the OP's assessment of Dobbs. He's a true Fr on the road against a top 10 team in his 1st start. He is not suppose to have to win the game by himself. I do agree that the coaching staff has been less than impressive in preparing this team to play big games on the road. They looked totally confused. I refuse to buy the "poor recruiting-lack of talent" on this one. We just got blown out by a team with a total of 1 5* and 3 4*s on their entire roster. We were totally out coached.
Not ready to see him fired, just hoping that he can realize that he's not in Cincy anymore, and step his game up.

bUTch told all of us that Dobbs & Fergy were not ready to play.... Very few people wanted to believe him though.

Now, can we all agree that he was correct in that Dobbs is not ready to play????

Then why did OC Mike Bajakian say two weeks ago that both Dobbs and Fergy were ready? Serious question because he did in fact say that.

1. CBJ doing a good job overall - more so in recruiting and getting program visibility than in game coaching so far (but recruiting is very important and he absolutely must deliver that top 5 class if he wants to be successful long term)

2. Dobbs - totally disagree with you - I think he is very talented and will have a great career here

3. DC and OC need to be replaced asap - they are the reason defense looks horrible and if o-line and running game are not clicking - that starts with the coordinator (preparation, discipline in terms of no penalties, calling the right plays, etc).

We just need to set up a revolving door and fire coaches until we get one that the "living fan" likes. We need a coach who lies, cheats and has the morals of a alley rat. We need players we can chain to their lockers in the dressing rooms between practice time and game time.

If Josh Smith could catch or if north. Wouldn't have slowed down on the fly route. That was two Tad's right there with dobbs. In we actually have a passing game and a. QB that can run. Dobbs showed poise for his first start on the road also hit his wr. In stride he plays not scared and has a quick. Release couldn't be more stoked about. Dobbs

You can't fix stupid

You can't fix stupid and stupid has no solutions. What does the OP expect? Fire Jones and go through another coaching change? Can he find anyone better, or anyone who would take the job from a school who fires a coach who doesn't get a chance to build a winner? Would he put Dobbs on the bench? I guess we could put a walk on in because there no other healthy QBs.

Dobbs played as well as any freshman could with no running game on the road at night against a top ten team. Dobbs may not be the second coming as some dreamers believe, but he did show promise and who else was able to play?

Jones, Jancek and Co. need at least 2 recruiting classes to compete with top SEC teams. They could pull off an emotional win here and there, but the talent gap is too big to expect more.

So, if you have any logical solutions, please let us amateurs on VN aware of your brilliant thoughts.

you do realize that Dobbs would have thrown for two touchdowns if North and Smith catch those two deep balls?
