With Carr being moved to the offense and then, presumably, transferring because of the change, I was wondering what players changed positions in the past, either successfully or unsuccessfully. Off the top of my head, I remember the following position changes:

Al Wilson- RB to LB
Jaron Toney- RB to DB
Devrin Young- RB to WR to RB
Raijon Neal- RB to WR to RB
CJ Leak- QB to TE
Kelley Washington- QB to WR
James Banks- QB to WR
Jonathan Wade- WR to DB

What are some of the other notable position changes from the past?

Fred Weary was a defensive lineman before switching to offensive guard

Aaron Douglas was a tight end before switching to offensive tackle

The Jason Witten position change blows my mind. Imagine the money he could have lost out on if he had stayed at DE. That is, assuming he moved for playing time purposes.

If memory serves, he was not happy about it either.

Wilson and Washington didn't switch after getting to UT. Al was a LB from the get go at UT and Washington was a WR.

If you re counting from high school, the list is extremely long..

Others at UT

Weary DL to OL
McRae DL to OL
McCleskey WR to DB
Pickens WR to DB to WR
Toles FB to LB
Ramseur RB to LB
North DL to OL

off top of my head, some that moved after starting out at different position at UT

Ronald Davis (1991-1994) began his career as a good WR (caught a 4th and 15 pass from Shuler on UT's game winning drive vs Georgia in '92) but ended as a mediocre CB. We recruited a Punter from Florida named Justin Reed ('01-'04) but once it was clear he couldn't really kick he was turned into a TE (and caught a TD pass vs Florida in '04).

Mark Jones. The Jack of all trades. That guy played everything. I'm pretty sure he still holds the record for the longest reception in UT history after he stole the ball away from a UGA CB. Not to mention, he caused the pick versus Miami on a corner blitz that helped win us the game. Give me 22 guys like that.
